No please do not think this is a Jake bashing thread.

I love his attitude and the effort he puts in and he occasionally shows a flash of brilliance like that long range effort a few games ago but have Brighton fans built him up too much?

He was being heralded as the saviour of the club, someone who would come in and score the goals to keep us up.

The argument about his age is not really enough of an excuse now. Not sure exactly his age but look at Jerome at Cardiff, cant be much older. Look at what Zamora did when he broke into the team.

Jake has missed a few good chances this season and unfortunately he plays in a team that will not create too many, meaning misses cost us dearly.

Is he ever going to be the superstar we all thought or have we put far too much pressure on the boys shoulders?

He has potential, but there has to come a time when that begins to be realised. When a young player's greatest strength is his work-rate, that's a little concerning. I guess the next couple of years will tell.

Championship or county league - too early.

As toad said If the work rate is his best point he is in trouble.
Mcphee works hard but gets slated for it being his only strong point.
He shouldnt be in the first team at this time.

I thought if he scored he would start banging them in but that does not seem to be the case.

I think in a good team Jake would look a lot better so perhaps unfair to judge him in the context of this season. Were he getting better service then he would not have to work so hard so perhaps his other traits would show through.

Also, I think that there is a lot of pressure on the team and, up until the Hull game, quite a few of our players seem reluctant to take be the ones to shoot. These nerves seem to have got through to Jake a bit because when he does not have time to think and his striking instincts kick in he looks good.

Only time will tell I guess but I think, while he will be a good Albion player, I am not sure he will take the league by storm in the way we hoped, perhaps wrongly, he would.

Loan him out, get him playing regularly and scoring at Cheltenham or some one of that calibre and judge when he's full of confidence and some of the expectation has shifted to some one else

I can honestly say I have never read He was being heralded as the saviour of the club, someone who would come in and score the goals to keep us up

People called for him to be included in the squad when he was regularly scoring in the reserves and showing real promise. They wanted him to be given a chance.
The rest I think you have made over the top to start off another 'let's discuss another player thread' but then again that is what Nsc is here for.

I dont think those comments were coming from the more informed fans, perhaps like yourself, but at games more then on NSC.

Last season everyone was putting a lot of pressure on Robinson to come in and score goals.

You have to admit there was a lot of fan pressure to include him and a lot of people were expecting him to do wonders largely because of how he had been built up on here and by word of mouth.

For example, Gatting is banging them in for the youth team but is hardly mentioned.

Yes I accept there was fan pressure but I hadn't seen the hype or heard it.
I wanted him to be given a chance myself.

There was a LOT of hype surrounding Jake but whether there was or not is not really the argument here.

I hope his work rate pays off and he bangs in a couple soon because I think, with confidence, he will relax infront of goal and more goals will come.

Apologies but I thought that was exactly what the poll was about.

It's a confidence thing and/or a fear of not making a good chance count when there aren't many chances around. But the fact that three different Albion players have planted the ball in the back of the net from outside the penalty area in the last couple of games should show JR that taking a risk often pays off...

Wise words Yorkie. A young player scoring regularly in the reserves SHOULD be given a chance in the first team. Then he can sink or swim on his merits. Jakey FORCED his way into the first team squad after being ridiculously farmed out to the non-league last season. He'll come good

I think he will make it in the end after a couple more sesons, he is only young and in reality very lightweight when you see some of the "seasoned" ex Premiership defenders he is up against.

Whilst he is not scoring a shed load of goals he is definitely an asset to us and playing regular Championship football will ultimately make him become the player we all want.

Its not fair to compare an 19 year old Jake with Zamora as Jake hasnt physically developed to the point Bobby was at at the same age.

Im dissapointed with Jakes finishing though, its not as if hes not had clear cut chances!

I still think he can make it but it wont be for another season or more!
