Ok, I know Stevenage was only a friendly, but I was really dissapointed with what I saw of Jake Robinson on Monday. This site (or certain people) have really built him up to be our answer to Michael Owen etc, but this pre-season he has not looked the business.

Against Worthing he managed to miss an open goal and on Monday he did not look interested at all. Completely off the pace of the game, his touch was not great and if completely honest, he lacked the extra yard of pace that top players have.

Do people really think he is going to make it?

This season I would like to see him loaned out somewhere to get some games under his belt.

I agree. Get him to somewhere like Orient to get games under his belt, although to be fair, there is no rush...

I have to be honest and say I have seen him play hardly at all so don't really know if he is any good. I was just sort of hoping that people on this site had seen him more than me and were right in saying he is going to be good. maybe they were wrong?

season long loan to a 3rd division club, if he cuts it bring him back, if not give him more time!

yeah, completely agree. from the little i've actually seen of him he still looks lightweight, but given time he'll fill out a bit. in fact i remember saying that about a certain mr zamora not too long ago.

He's talented but a bit like a straw in the wind at the moment. Give him another year or two to put on some weight and develop some strength. Then we can see how good he will be.

Good idea to send him out on loan - perhaps Crawley would be the best option? Conference football and close enough to keep tabs on his progress.

A loan would be excellent. people keep saying he's not ready, give him time etc. But I don;t see how he is going to get better in the reserves!

Season lon loan to a third div side.

only seen him play once (at grimsby) and he got my man of the match. i was impressed. quick, good control, and read the game really well. was a thorn in the side of grimsby defence.
i dont think he could be expected to produce that consistantly at his tender age. looks good for the future though.

I sort of saw that game at Grimsby as well and I think he was OK that day. I know all this stuff about he is young and do not expect miracles, but this pre-season, when I thought he would be out to impress I have seen nothing to suggest he is going to make it beyond the contract he is on. You expect him, if he is as good as certain people have said, to have something that makes you go wow, but I have not really noticed it.

I do think a season at Conference level will do him no harm.

We had a player a few years back showed similar promise but was lightweight and disappeared into obscurity.
Think his name was David Jip

Before that it was Peter Ward:D :D

He's only 17 and not yet showing he can do it at first team level so it's safe to say he's not the next Wayne Rooney. However, I'd be delighted if he was the next Zamora or Leon Knight and I think he can be.

Has never particuarly impressed me when Ive seen him play but he is young. He definately needs to bulk out and hopefully get a bit taller, and then well see.

What is painfully clear is that he is not yet worthy of the massive hype hes received on NSC so so far, and calls for him to be in the 1st 11 last season were way off the mark. A loan would be a sensible idea imo, and then hopefully when hes a year older hell be the business.

He's still very young, but clearly not ready for a starting position in the 1st XI.

I think he needs to get a good run in the reserves, get a few goals under his belt, a few appearances off the bench and then we'll see where we are at Christmas.

I don't see the point in loaning him out because:

a) We don't have much cover up front
b) The lower divisions are, arguably, more physical - not his strong point at the moment, and
c) He might get ideas above his station and leave.

In fairness he had a good run in the reserves last year and I would have thought that first team football would be the way forward, just not with us at the moment. Also we can recall him from a loan, so if we need him back there will not be a problem

Yeah send him to Crawley.

i think crawley would be best, you get a lot of ec pros in that league he can learn tricks off plus som off the teams are kickers which will toughen him up

No, I think, based on the squad we had at the end of last season, he should be on the pitch from the start.
