Is it time to end Daylight Saving Time?
nothing to do with Napoleon, didnt even have standard time then. it came in during WWI to save energy by staying light longer in the evening during summer, while keeping morning light sensible in the winter months.I’m probably as far west as Brighton from the Meridian longitude but in a different time zone. I blame Napoleon! Never understood the “Daylight saving” thing. The days are the same length whatever you do.
Second one sounds goodKeep as is,
Leave GMT all year round = sun rises in Summer around 4am which means light at 3.30am
Move to BST and leave permanently = Very late sunrises in winter and 10 pm sunsets in the summer
We get the 9.30pm games here. I like it.Hard emough to watch games here as it is, moving the clocks makrs it harder.

BST in the winter would be shit, sunrise only around 9am in December, GMT in summer would mean getting dark at 8pm in June, 7pm in mid August. if we stopped, everyone would be moaning in a year to reinstate it. in fact we did stop, did moan and it was reintstated.
As an ardent European, I counter this with one the thing Britain can be proud of. Greenwich Meantime. GMTI’ve heard the argument about accidents in the dark mornings in Scotland etc counter argued by accidents in early evening so evening things out. When working I often had 0530 starts and in the summer it had been daylight for some time. I often thought we could do with this daylight in the evenings for sport and leisure. IMO the UK would be better off in line with mainland Europe but you do not have to explain to me why that will never happen!![]()
Fair points but I believe it was brought in to unify the UK or at least England for the benefit of railway travel. It was obvious to use Greenwich Mean Time as mariners had been using it for centuries. Just because we adjust things to be more convenient does not mean the death of GMT.As an ardent European, I counter this with one the thing Britain can be proud of. Greenwich Meantime. GMT
Seafarers, travellers, navigators, pilots etc all use the timelines set by us. The Internatonal Dateline is a bit of a pigs ear due to random islands but apart from that, longitude and time work well together.
