Is it time to rename the West and East Stands?

I'd change. It's not like it's the Goldstone or something meaningful, so if AE stopped paying, I'd call it the new sponsors name (within reason). And if we didn't, new sponsors would give up paying for the right after a while, meaning the club would lose out.

Would they though? The media would be obliged to call the stadium by whatever the sponsors wanted to call it, and I guess any new fans would probably fall into line. But for all of the current fanbase, 'The Amex' is a convenient shorthand term for the stadium. And IMHO I don't see that changing anytime soon.

True. But if social media and videos of fans chatting always referred to it as the Amex, surely that would piss off a new sponsor? The coverage they get is not just on SSN, but also the fans talking about it.

Well we're not about to lose Amex, so I don't expect a large influx of fans in the future.

I don't see it changing because we're not about to lose American Express. But if we did, although the Amex is a short and convenient term, it is a brand, so I wouldn't feel right saying it if they weren't our sponsor.

I believe the Amex needs an uplift in time for our journey into the Premiership. I would think Tony Bloom is too much of a shrinking violet to have the West Stand renamed after himself. If not Tony, maybe former directors, managers, players or local landmarks. How about The Goldstone Stand or The Martin Perry Stand in honour of his long standing work in acquiring the Amex Stadium?
Please don't go down the lines of a sponsored stand though.I can see Paul Barber licking his lips at the very thought.I know it will require a considerable outlay to change signage inside and out on concourses but would be swallowed up by our Premiership windfall.
Let's hear if you think this is a good idea or your names please?

A NO from Tony Bloom, 59 minutes in.

Pretty sure that the current sponsors are pretty pee'ed off at us all sporting our SKINT etc. tops. Wasn't there a World Cup Finals match sometime recently where fans wearing the non-current logo were actually refused admission to the game? Wasn't it something to do with the Dutch national team? Or have I gone wrong?

 sad times.

I think you may have been born wrong, but that's another subject.

I think if we do rename them we should call the East stand 'the West stand', and the West stand should be renamed as 'the East stand' just to mess with people's heads

Alternatively you could rename one as 'We're too old to' stand and the other as 'We're only sitting because we're not allowed to' stand

Let's just name the East Upper: The Simmo Stand.
I'm sure everyone around me will agree with this :drink:

Apart from LamieRobertson who is up the other end from me - thankfully :moo:

You've gone wrong.

Any old ACTUAL Dutch shirts would have been allowed in. What were refused entry, were a big group (of fit blondes, I seem to recall) resplendent in bright orange 'fake' Netherlands shirts emblazoned with the logo of a competitor to the 'Official beer' (or something similar).
