Is it time to make games longer?

With increased fitness and more substitutes, is it time to think about making games longer? If so, how much longer?

Discuss.

(Apologies for the football nature of this thread and the complete lack of dead horses, porn or hens.)

Especially when if you look at the stats after a live prem game, and it states ball in play (roughly) 20-25 minutes per half.
The technology exists to record 'ball in play' time. It should be 30 minutes of that each half. And a rugby league style hooter at the end.

This is almost as ridiculous as Andy Gray argument of making the goals bigger, if it's not broke why change it??

But the use of technology would lead to games of different length at different levels and in different areas. Only a few levels of football could afford to use such technology, and in much of the world, no-one could afford it.

They've changed the number of subs regularly, they've changed the rules frequently. They certainly change the prices often enough. Longer games = greater value for money? Not if you are a Palarse fan, obviously.

Another 5 mins and we could have won 10-0 on Saturday,

Other times i agree 90mins is enough

And if that was the case how long would 30 minutes actual playing time take - a lot longer than 45 minutes I would guess. I reckon we get maximum 20 - 25 minutes of actual football each half at the moment.

I'm all for it - time wasting would become a thing of the past - clock stopped for every stoppage etc.

We had a case earlier this season - or perhaps the end of last - when there were 5 subs in the second half - now that's supposed to be a minimum of 2.5 mins - 30 seconds per sub. Yet we had 2 minutes of stoppage time. Work that one out.

Only problem is that ITV and SKY would want to put adverts in at every break in play!

And we can have 23 a side games and next goal wins, monkey rush goalies as well.

How about penalty goal attacks from the centre circle, sin bins and rolling subs. Kick ins might be worth a go.

Remember to get some half baked popstars for the halftime show and we'll be right back after a word from our sponsor.

It's alright, I'm sure the FA don't read NSC. :dunce:

Do they read NSP? I think Sven would have quite liked it...

90 minutes is the PERFECT length for a game. Never mess with it.

a) Look at players that really give a shit. They're knackered at the end of the game yet ready to play 3 days later if needed

b) When combined with a cab ride to the ground, half time and the bus back it provides around about a 3 hour gap to sober up in which, if you time it well, is perfect to have you in the mood for a few beers after the game despite a pint or five before :drink:

If they changed the rule so that every time the ball went out of play the clock stopped, so that the game consisited of 90- mins actual football, it would be virtually impossible to say how long a game would last. Would it be 3 hours, 4 hours or 2 hours 30 mins. At least it would stop games being on TV and get fans back into the grounds but TV provides so much of the revenue.

Incidentally the clock could be stopped at all levels and 90 mins playing time allowed even for Sunday morning pub teams.
