He should stay and if he does we'll probably be promoted next season.

Don't forget there's loads on here who wanted Holloway not too long ago, also Di Canio and I think they're both muppets.

Yeah, a muppet who completely out-thought us last night. Holloway's a good manager - don't think he'd be right for Brighton but he's still a decent manager.

I think - and hope - that Gus will stay. He'll learn from this experience (and the whole season) and come back stronger. I'm not putting my money on us going up automatically next year as this is a tough league but another top 6 finish is not beyond us

There's actually nothing wrong with what he said, you're all reading way too much into it. He's upset, so are we. He wants to know if we can strengthen for next season, so do we. His plans have been blown up in the air by that result, so have ours. Gus is a massive part of bha now, stop trying to create a him and us divide, we're on the same side. And for god's sake don't let a poor last 45 minutes of football derail everything good about the club right now. If nothing else remember how good we've felt these last 2 months and take it into the new season. Maybe there is no money and we can't keep or replace our stars. If so gus possible the dream dies here, but it won't be his fault

It's the right sentiment, but my overriding feeling is that he should only stay if he remains sufficiently motivated to get us up. There's a lot of work required - we are going to need to rebuild half our team who are either surely on their way (Bridcutt) or getting on a bit (I think 5 of our starting XI last night were 31 or over). We all know Gus has the ability to do this, but if he wants a break from the club then it's time for another decent manager (I can't see beyond Di Matteo) to step in and do the job instead.

Some of us knew it was time a year ago. Unfortunately, by allowing him to stay, we've just wasted another season of The Amex buzz and the big crowds.
You're an embarrassment.

In the words of Alex Ferguson, in his farewell speech this week:
"I'd also like to remind you that when we had bad times at the club, all the staff stood by me, all the players stood by me. Your [the supporters] job now is to stand by your new manager."

We have much more chance of success if we have stability.

Completely agree. Talk about going over the top about comments made in the heat of the moment which weren't actually that bad anyway. I really hope he stays as I think he has done an amazing job and the best chance we have of keeping our best players e.g. Bridge (although he is unlikely), Upson, Lopez etc, lies with him. A new manager would probably lead to a number of players leaving and having to rebuild next year, which wouldn't be the end of the world but would be a shame after the team we built this year.

Just what we needed after the game:

"I've not been in this situation but I don't like it," he said. "It's changed my view completely about everything I was prepared for, so we'll see now. For me this just means he genuinely felt we would get to the Prem and his preperations for that are now in the bin unfortunately.

"I have always said that all the time we keep improving I am going to be at this football club and the day we hit the roof, I'm not. Needs to know from the board that he will have a budget to challenge again next season and not just sit still. Fair enough point imo.

"Is there something more? Right now I don't know, so I need to make sure I know there is, because if not I am not going to stay forever." See above, with FFP coming in he want's to know the boards plans moving forward on how they're going to compete.

Agreed the timing is poor in making these comments and he should have kept it to himself but you do not know whether this has been falling on deaf ears behind closed doors so he felt he had to go public with it.

I can't believe that there are people who still want Gus to stay after his post match comments last night. Why is there such blind devotion of the man when he clearly doesn't want to be here? I will always be grateful for the great season we've had but at the end of the day the club is much, much bigger than Gus, whether he thinks so or not.

Have u actually listened to the interview..sometimes the tone of interview is as important as whats said,,,,oh and yes i'd be happy for him to stay providing we progress...4th seems a progression from last season to me..call it blind devotion if you like..some poster has said we have wasted the season and seems to indicate big crowds equal success..thats a joke

Hope he stays. Four points off automatic this season. We've made huge progress and will improve again next year if Gus Poyet stays.

YOU revel in us losing. Great fan that. You might think you knew something but here's a gem for you: you know sweet f.a. About anything. If you're such a sage you'd have an opinion on the good and the bad times. But you don't. In our best season in a generation you still resurface as predictable as night following day, to be a negative bellend when feelings are still raw - and you're an undeservedly smug and arrogant bellend at that. You're a lonely, attention seeking, tragic little weed who gets his jollies by starting arguments on the internet. Some of us knew that years ago. Do everyone a favour and piss off and 'support' someone else.

:clap2:

Well said sir.

Di Matteo is an interesting choice. Do you think he would come to us? It is only a year since he won the Champions League and while I realise he won't get another top club, I would have thought he would have his sights set higher than the Championship.

If we do lose Gus, and I really hope he stays, I trust Bloom to find the right man. He certainly did last time! Whatever happens, I hope it is sorted quickly so Gus/new manager can start planning for next season and sorting out contracts.

I understand why people might want Gus out, and i would too if i thought there was someone better. He is ambitious as any young manager would be and looking to manage at the top level but he makes comments about leaving every other week and to be honest i am sick of it, we win and lose on his tactics so he shouldn't act like the club has done something wrong to him. He always plays himself up whilst suggesting the club is too bad to be in that kind of position yet we have given him a new stadium, training grounds and complete freedom on transfer signings.. If he had a plan b and killing edge in the first half of the season we would have walked the season but he didn't, he is still learning like all managers which we accept and i hope he stays because things can only be better next season. However to always talk about other clubs, suggesting he might leave etc is just embarrassing and overlooks the fact it was his tactics and the team he constructed that lost the play offs (and we had a brilliant season and great misfortune to lose but our squad is still immature in terms of a promotion push). I want to see Di Canio passion and loyalty to the job, i want the manager to love the club and the fact the fans adore him and respect that he has it better than most other managers.

Absolutely and people seem to be using that as an attack on his negative tactics rather than a sign of how far we've come. We're also top of the form table for 2013. Frustrating that we kept one of our worst performances for the biggest game of the season but it happens to all teams and hopefully we will learn from it.

We need a manager who is committed to the club long term, with that we need to start thinking about youth and build a team with the next 3/4 years in mind. Look at JFC for example if he was getting games he would develop into a great player just like Johnny Williams has done for Palace.
For Gus to keep on complaining about budgets and seeking more money to meet his own goals will not lead to a sustainable business model for this club, which for me is all that matters!

I have long been torn between loving and hating him. At his best, he is charming, funny and inspirational. At his worst, he is ignorant, egotistical and reactionary. The latter came out last night a bit but at the worst possible time.

He is not too big for this club but his misinformed opinion of himself is.

Gus has dragged us into a new era kicking and screaming from the rooftops and I love him for that but I think now, Albion needs a new vision and a new revolution to pursue.
