Does anyone know a rough idea about our borrowing as Falmer nears. I would like to know that. Yes yes I know potless Dick is the messiah and all that crap.
How much of the 50/60 mill will we need to borrow ?

Time to step down? No

Time to accept he cant take this club any further and invite future investors/chairman in for a chat? Yes

Otherwise we'll end up like Huddersfield......Nice new ground....but going nowhere!

Hello mate!

You're right, there is no way he should step down, not now. He is two years away from Falmer. The work will start in October, after all he has done I would hope he would be on the pitch the first game of the season taking the applause.

As for new investors, if there are any serious investors out there then we have to welcome them on board as you've said above. Not too sure where they are though.

This poll is a complete farce as the question on the poll is the opposite of the one in the title. No doubt though people like Vulture will use it as an example of how everyone now wants Knight out.

sorry - i meant on the playing side of things. however important falmer is, without investement in the team then gates are going to drop, people arent going to be interested and thats not going to be good in getting the casual fan into falmer

a lot more people will be interested in parting with their cash at the new stadium if we are in the championship than they will be if we are in league two, or even blue square premier (however farfetched that may be!). and we won't be in the championship or at least pushing for it without investment in the team

Where, exactly, do you think all this money will come from to invest in the team?

I really wonder what planet some people live on sometimes......

put wrong answer in as question in thread title and question on poll are different. IF Knight was to step down, please, oh wise ones' let me know who takes over? Knight is doing his best despite limited resources and a bunch of ungrateful twats (in my opinion) who moan when we need to pull together. I believe what the club has achieved in the time DK has been in charge must be one of the most successful for any Brighton Chairman - 2 championships, play-offs finally getting permission for a new ground. Some of the moaning kids just have no idea!

We'll find out in the fullness of time.

I know that's not much of an answer but it's because (a) we don't know the final cost and so (b) cannot get our hands on any public funding that the club may be entitled to.

When will the public funding amount be known then. Because if the work is due to start in sep/oct next year they must have an idea of their borrowing surely. That might worry any contractor if not.

From my point of view that argument is virtually irrelevant.

What ever division we are in - we are getting a stadium. If we splash out now on players to ensure we stay in this division, then where is that money coming from? Is there a chance that the money we spend on players will reduce the money we need to pay current Falmer related bills.

Secondly, WHEN we get to Falmer - don't you think we will have more of a selling point to new players? Don't you think that any investor who was thinking twice of sponsoring a player or something team related whilst we are at Withdean - may change their mind when we get to a nice brand spanking new stadium with more capacity - ie more people to see their corporate name? Don't you think that those casual fans will slowly come back as everything starts to pick up (hopefully) again...

as far as i understand it, falmer is already funded through grants/sponsorship/whatever and we will not need an investor to come in and bankroll it. therefore, should there be an investor out there, his cash can focus solely on the running costs of the club AND strengthening the team

obviously when we get to falmer we will have a better selling point - but that doesnt mean we should stop trying to sign them just because of that. and obviously a new investor will be more tempted when its built - but again, it doesnt mean we shouldnt be trying to find them now

lots of people i know who used to be fans at the goldstone and didnt go to gillingham went and supported there local non-league teams, such as lewes, eastbourne borough, bognor, worthing and burgess hill. they have never come back such is the enjoyment of following those sides - regardless of how well we are doing. while that may not be the case with everyone, its certainly a worry that even when we were doing well earlier in the season, the crowds did not pick up at all - suggesting it is the same people who go every week, as opposed to the casual fans coming in

Ditto.

It would of course be interesting to see what happened if he did decide to call it a day. As is often said, people are sometimes only properly appreciated when they aren't around anymore?

like Robert Maxwell.........

You're putting the cart before the horse.

It's the company that wins the tender contract that will determine - largely - how much this project is going to cost. I think (though I could be wrong) that the contract tender period expires about mid-February.

Picking out figures from memory (they're not totally accurate), the club is estimating that the contract will cost around £55-60m in total - with the stadium itself costing something like £30-35m. It could be that the winning contractor can do it for less. Or more.

No public funding body is going to hand money over if they don't have ALL of the details of the contract in question in front of them. From there, the club can work out exactly what it needs to borrow. As for timings - no idea, but obviously in time for the work to start around October-ish, and we have not heard anything to the contrary so far.

The SEEDA money was for a different contract. That money has now gone to Brighton & Hove City Council, who will use that money for funding the access road across the A27. BHCC are the ones who will put that job out to tender later this year - but still in plenty of time for the rest of the project.

I'd re think that little process there through a bit further at the moment...

As far as I know - the final costs of the stadium are not complete therefore we cannot apply for grants as we don't know how much to ask for. I think DK focusing on the finalities of planning is a far more serious issue than whether we are in division 1 or 2 or 92 - no matter how dissapointing it would be.....

Edited to say - read TLOs post above re funding...

yeah, i wasnt sure to be honest. i thought it was the case that however much it costs, the money would be achieved through grants etc and not rely on a new investor coming in to bank roll it

therfore, any new investor coming in could use his money solely for running costs and looking to strengthen the team
