I vividly remember amazing some idiot at Brighton dog track a few years ago - the TV was on showing Man U v Bayern Munich and I asked what the score was. When told it was 3-1 (I seem to remember) I said "Oh good" and all he could find to say was "But they're German!" "Yes" I said "and I support Brighton & Hove Albion not Manchester f***ing United"

You've talked about this 'song' United supposedly sing about Falklands soldiers on several threads, but can't be specific. I don't think it exists. Is there any evidence at all it has ever been sung, or is it just total bollocks?

Recent songs I have actually heard sung are at Tevez by other fans ('You should have died in the Falklands') and Ronaldo ('You should have died in the tunnel' - reference to his car prang). I would say United are far more sinned against than sinners in the sick songs department over the last 30 years, though it isn't a contest and any examples shame those involved.

That is all true. A Man Utd season ticket holder has recently told me of how younger City fans have started singing the Munich aircrash song at matches. It must be a generational thing because in years gone by City would show the utmost respect at rememberence times especially knowing one of their greatest ever players died in that crash. A certain Frank swift.

To me that stinks of double standards. That or you just draw the line at an illogical point.

So, you wouldn't want a team from the same city to win.
You wouldn't want a team from the same set of Islands to win
But you would want a team from the same country to win.

I just don't get it. But it is up to you and I wont preach to you but you cant expect other English people not to be overjoyed that the scum have been beaten tonight.

I think he meant more that he was supporting the representatives of the English league.

The problem I have supporting Man U, or Chelsea, or Liverpool, or particularly Arsenal in Europe is that I struggle to consider them really English teams. United started with just THREE English players last night.

Going back a few years the English teams in Europe had a majority of English players so at least you felt you were cheering for the home country. Now???

There seems alot of people on here that seem to be happy Englands Man Utd lost tonight that were supporting he reinstatement of an English St Georges day only last month ..

One can't have it both ways surely ???

As patriotic as I feel about being British, there exists a regard for the beautiful game that makes me always hope that the best team wins unless it's one from the Croydon area (and sometimes when it's Scotland, but it's so seldom that they turn out to be the best team).

It also occurs to me that our Prem teams include few English players, so regarding one of such teams as 'English' is a bit of a stretch of the imagination anyway.

I know exactly what you mean. At least the Chelsea - Man U final last year had 10 or 11 English players on show. This isn't just an English problem though - Barca only started with 5 Spaniards when a few years back their team would have probably been mostly Catalan.

For me it's mainly about watching as a neutral and preferring the team that plays the more entertaining football with the least cheating and diving. Last night's game was a bit disappointing from that point of view TBH.

These days it's becoming difficult to find an 'English' team in the prem, with the exception of Villa who seem to play 8 or 9 Englishman every week

Anyone who doesn't understand why people from outside of Manchester (especially in towns HUNDREDS of miles away) wanted Barca to win last night clearly did not watch, as has never watched the United game in a pub.

I detest plastic Utd fans with a passion and it absolutely makes my day seeing them upset, people with absolutely no affilliation to a club they claim to support. I've probably seen as many Utd games as they have if you can only claim to have seen them on telly. (UNTS!

Now we're getting somewhere. So you've never heard it sung anywhere other than by one angry dullard in a pub, with some accompanying wild stories. As I suspected.
ive heard it , they sang it when they came to chelsea this year, it does contain words about simon weston to the tune of london bridge is falling down.

I think United are a fantastic team but hate them with a passion because of those plastic fans.

To be fair you can also hate Chelsea,Arsenal and Liverpool for those exact same reasons.

I'm not questioning you (see what i did there!), but where did you get that info from. If there is a list like that to show all English teams it would be interesting to see. More for our division than the Premiership but I think it would be interesting on the whole.

He heard it from some drunk Man Utd season ticket holder in a pub.

So it must be true.

It's a football thing.

The best team won,and were brilliant doing it.Anybody watching the Spanish football on Sky will have seen some remarkable Barcelona performances throughout the season, punctuated, peppered, with flair.

They made Manchester United look pedestrian.

So well done Barcelona on winning the game.............and it had absolutely nothing to do with St George.Their multi-nationals played better than the Manchester teams multi-nationals.

The End.

Its not about the players , Manchester United were English well before they were over run with players, the clue for people that don't get it is in the name "Manchester" United.....it's a city in England !!!!!
In 10 years time if they had 11 english players does that make them any more English....NO, they will still be the same team from the same English city.

That said, not really giving a shit its easy to laugh at the plastics today

Delighted Man Utd lost. Would be happy to have St George's Day as a holiday, but I celebrated nonetheless, without singing 'There ain't no black. In Union Jack'.

To me, Man Utd don't give a toss about winning it for the English League. They are in it for themselves, as with most teams. My hatred of Man Utd stems from cornering the market and exploiting the circumstances. They were one of the main voices that ensured that home gate receipts were not shared and they have 'inadvertently' stolen a whole generation of fans from surrounding/countrywide teams.

clearly put mate, well said.
