Is it a concern than we need new players already?

In the last two games against Palace and Ipswich I feel Poyet has chosen a side to contain the opposition and try and pinch a result, as opposed to picking an attacking side to try and win the game from the off. This has been our downfall as we are far better attacking then we are defending..Navarro and Bridcutt starting in the same team does not and will never work as both of them are water carrying players(in Bridcutts case very good at it) and neither of them is capable of turning defence into attack quick enough with any attacking vision. Vicente is a proven quality left sided midfielder so play him there, you dont have a diamond and try and pass it off as a piece of glass, and play Noone on the right or Buckley when fit....So we need a box to box midfielder who can defend as well as attack, a versitile full back with pace and a hold up centre forward who Cms can play off....Sort all this out and we are still top 6 material..........oh and a keeper.

The midfield is the main area of concern. Dicker, Navarro and Sparrow have been given the chance to prove they can cope consistently at a higher level yet all three have failed. Dicker has had good games but you can't blow hot and cold in his role in a passing side.

I think Gus will already have targets lined up including a midfielder with height and presence as well as a target man and a full back.
This is correct...
We need some creative midfielders as like you say the likes of sparrow, navarro and dicker are not doing anything and clearly not good enough. This is why the service is so shite to our forward line and way way to slow. The defence is very good apart from painter who seems to slow at times.

Time maybe to keep the same starting line-up home and away and play two wingers home and away?we look awsome when attacking so lets use our strenghs.Gus will have other idea's though and he knows better:D

Interesting what u say about a tall strong striker.....am i correct in that we have only scored once with a header this season and that was Sunderland.

This is what I meant, we could do with somebody who won't be knocked off of the ball too easily, to hold up front with his back to goal. CMS can then run past, get the through ball and we are away. Also able to jump at corners, both offensive and defensive. That may help even if only used as a plan B.

So in other words, we need crofts and we need Murray...

I had big doubts over some of the players and their ability to step up a level.

But Gus has given them a chance, and a few are badly lacking. Even before the bad run that has left us 5th... YES 5th in championship (lets not forget that), I had big concerns over Dicker, Painter, Greer (believe it or not), and the rest of the central midfiled bar Bridcutt. I didnt think Barnes would be near the side, and its only injuries that have allowed him to start, but as much as he tries, he's not up to this level.

I think whilst we have the numbers, we seriosuly are lacking in central midfield.

We also miss Glenn Murray. For the sake of 2k a week, I think Gus' biggest cock up to date was not matching Palaces offer and giving him two years.

Imagine where we would be with CMS playing off of Murray. Probably away at the top of the table.

I think the difference this season, is we are getting punish for mistakes, whereas last season we created so many chances, we could get away with it.

Still think we will finish around the play offs, but I think there could be a few shocks for a few players coming up in the next few weeks.

Gus has the contacts, he can get in loan players at will, he just has choosen not to. I think any player that loses their place in the next month to loanees, could find themselves out of the club in January.

The system works. The players are not up to the system at the moment.

GM still with us top of table....sigh...is he gonna play in goal ..right n left back at same time..etc etc...MOVE ON

I don't think that it is a 'concern' of such more of a worry but we chose to take the 'hope we do well without spending allot of money' approach whereas like likes of West Ham and Leicester have a big budget. What we need to do is identify the positions we need strengthening in get players on loan in those positions until Christmas if they fit into the team and playing well sign them if not find some more players its the route we chose to take.

If it is a concern to Poet he was possible naive which i don't think/hope is the case.

We should get Rooney,Jones and Young from Manchester United,Silva,Nasri and Aguerro from Man City, rescue Robinson from Blackburn Rovers,Gerrard from Liverpool and Torres from Chelsea.I'm sure Leighton Baines will do OK for us and why don't Tony and Gus splash out on Virgo from Bristol Rovers,as cover for them all?

We certainly need to offload players before we get any more in, otherwise you just have half a dozen bench warmers, costing the club a lot of money and doing sod all.
Even if we are better off now it's easy to get sucked into this dream and continual need to buy more and more expensive players (on silly wages) and end up with a squad of 40 highly paid players......unless of course Bloom is happy to keep on shelling out ever increasing sums (which as a sensible businessman I doubt). It's supposed to be a 2-3 year plan to achieve the prem, we need to learn to walk in this division before we try to run out of it.

We played with two wingers in the first half against Leeds and looked what happened. That is not the solution as it leaves Bridcutt and the defence even more exposed on the counter attack. I think the problem is the lack of pure physical presence and lack of pace in midfield which needs to be addressed. The lack of pace at full back is also an issue as many others have said. Odd really because we have pace in abundance up front.

Gus has always maintained that we are a League One side trying to be a Championship side against Championship sides with Premier League players and that being in the top six is not reality. As said, he is probably giving the obvious League One players a shot at adapting to life in the Championship and they are/have been found out in the opening sequence of games. Gus will move swiftly to add quality to the squad of that i'm sure, even if it's the loan market that he detests. Relegation is not an option.

With respect, and although I understand where you're coming from, this is wrong.

We are not a League One team - we were last year but proved ourselves too good for that league. We are currently fifth in the Championship, which makes us a Championship team. If Gus said we are a League One team then he is talking rubbish.

The rick in both these posts is that Sparrow hasn't been given a chance yet. He's had one decent Cup Game against higher standard opposition, one start and one sub appearance. I genuinely believe he should start a game to steady the midfield. Harley is a disappointment and we have desperately missed El-Abd.
On the other hand, you are right that Gus will know better.

Our squad that Gus picks from is still very light ,and IMO we are lacking fullback, and striker options . Harley and Vincente were signed to add cover for the midfield ,although both it seems will need some time to settle in !!!

Thanks to live Tv Ive seen us play the whole game twice and listened to the rest. I dfo not think there is anything wri=ong with the way we play except maybe a change of paxce when playign under the cosh on the counterattack as teh tank said. With the wingers we have we should eb able to do this. Breaking down the team I woudl say...

GK Ankers OK but no compettive cover... GK a must!
RB calde OK but no competetive cover... RB a must ! Tarricco shoudl eb third choice as he just doesnt have the legs
LB Painter looks OK as a cover but no more.... LB URGENT!!!
RCB Greer done well altho confidence now knocked
LCB Think were OK IF Greer doesnt get injured and full abck are sorted... experienced CB an advantage
DMC Bridders vfine and navs Ok as cover .... but we really shouldnt be playign both as severelty limits our options
Box to Box CM... Dicker and Sparrow not quite there.... box to box midfielder a must!
AMC - Vicente if not too many injuries.... reckon Harley will be OK as cover in time
WINGERS... no worries there
STRIKERS fine but a hold up forward would be better... thought this weould be Bergkamp.... a holdign forward who is good in the air an adavantage.

In conclusion - 1 player very urgent, 3 more ASAP and a further two to make us really competetive.

Can we get the right players though?

When we have been able to get our wingers, mainly Nooney, into the game we have looked dominent and dangerous but when we play 4 central midfielders who lack pace and can't keep possesion then suprisingly we create nothing and just cause havok for our own defenders to try and deal with.

I'd like to see CMS and Barnes playing as a pair which will create opportunities for them to run in behind which is what they are both best at doing. but to do this we need someone capable of playing on the right wing. This will stretch the game and create space and opportunities for our strikers to score goals.

Gus said he wanted 6 or 7 players which was before we lost Murray and Benno so we should have seen 8 or 9 arrive. He spent a lot of the summer trying to sign a CB and a CF with presence. We need his 23 man squad to be fit and ready to play with 2 players for every position who can pass the ball and won't resort to hit and hope tactics.

I'd like to see a few new signings;
GK, CB, LB, RM & CF
