Is football about Tribalism and Warfare, or Fun?

He then proceeded in asking me if I'd ever hurled abuse at a player for making a dirty tackle on a Brighton player which I responded "no". He then started accusing me of lying and talking through my arse. I told him how I tend to shout out encouragement or try and sway the refs decision but I've never been one for venting my anger at opposition players or fans.

Seriously? Not even at, say, Joey Barton for his stamp on Beram Kayal? ???

Tribalism. I personally (stress 'personally') think football is quite a boring sport to watch as a neutral and for me it's the element of tribal conflict that gives it it's appeal. For 90 minutes it's our tribe against their tribe. Cheer for our people, boo and hurl abuse at theirs. I would rather win a shit game 1-0 than lose a thriller 4-3. Sod the fun, sod the entertainment, and especially sod the 'being nice' to visiting fans.
