Is finishing 10th seen as a disappointment this season?

Considering:

Brez --- Kusz
Calde --- Bruno
Mattock --- Bridge
Navarro --- Crofts

We should definitely be aiming for higher than 10th, with a MUCH more solid looking first 11.

I won't be disappointed, I don't think we will get above tenth this season, but it will be a disappointing result no doubt.

I think a lot of us may have forgotten where we were a few years ago. Top half for me and I'm ecstatic. Avoid relegation and I'll be happy.

If you are ecstatic if we ended 12th, what would you be like if we won the league!

Playoffs as a minimum.

But extra quality, especially a class finisher, must join our squad by 1st Sept, and perhaps a centre back.

TB stated previously that he wants the PL sooner, and is not on a long term plan with that particular goal. Hopefully his wish, will be matched by transfer dealings in the next few days.

In addition, will the likes of Vicente settle for a club content with being in the second-tier mid-table?

We need to finish in the play offs to keep season ticket sales at the level they currently are.

Finishing any lower than 10th considering the players we now have would not be satisfactory.

Oue defensive record last year wasn't that bad, and all Gus has done is to improve defensive positions. You have to improve squads in the championship just to keep still. So far none of our signings lead me to believe that we will improve our attacking play sufficiently to finish higher up the table.
All I am looking for is a bit more variation in our play to make a day out at the amex a bit more exciting.
If he gets a better forward line, then I would have a bit more hope.

I was hoping for the playoffs, but after looking at the squad which is certain to see a fair few injuries i can say 10th would be a bloody good season, was expecting a few more faces and our strikeforce is terrible in terms of numbers.

Problem is when you have big crowds and fans who spend a fortune nowadays expectations grow considerably, testing time for gus maybe next season especially if he continues with negative football.

To Gus, yes, he will leave if we are not at least in playoffs IMHO... one good striker away from challenging for playoffs IMHO...

Leave ha ha,you are flattering him surely,if he fails with us then it's his thought surely?
His negative style of football wouldn't be tolerated at many clubs and it might not here soon.

We'll see... target is definitely play-offs for Gus AND Tony...

Is this the same negative football that destroyed Charlton at the Valley 4-0 away from home, and resulted in the Charlton fans applauding the Albion off the field for completely out playing them? Mate, really, watch England play in the world cup or Euros and then compare that to Spain. If you think smacking the ball 40 yards to a big bloke up front is attacking football then as they say, you can lead a horse to water but we cant make it drink.

I thought last season was fairly open, but this year is even more so - it's a ridiculously competitive league.

The three sides who came down are strong, the three who came up should do very well and then there's all the usual suspects who hovered around the playoff places last season (most of whom have not been shy in the transfer market in the summer) who will all be looking to be there or thereabouts again.

There were also quite a fair few underachieving big-spending sides like Leicester and Forest that could easily come good.

There's nothing to say we couldn't be up there at the end of it, but given how this league is probably now better than it ever has been, there's probably about 17/18 teams who are in with a realistic chance of going up at the outset.

A few injuries to key players and a couple of poor runs (like that mid-autumn run last year and also that winless spell at the very end of the season) could see us linger in the bottom half, but if it does all come together and the likes of Vicente, Buckley, Lua Lua and [INSERT MYSTERY STRIKER'S NAME] stay fit and on form, then a better finish than last year is certainly possible.

So in answer to the original question, I'd be reasonably content with 10th myself. Anything above that would be a bonus.

Pork pie land.
Promotion is the target. From the Official Site:
"...Kuszczak has laid down the gauntlet for himself and the rest of the squad as the side prepare for their first game of the campaign away at Hull, and he made no secret of the team's desire to challenge for Premiership football.

"It is not a secret that we are all here to go up. Everyone has got it in their heads but we know how tough this league is.

"It is why I decided to come to this club and why a few other players with massive amounts of experience in the top divisions in the world are here.

"We like to play good football and we will come up against teams that like to kick the ball in the air and be physical against us. The pitches will not always be the best either so obviously this is going to cause problems, but we are prepared for that.

"We will see how things go. At the moment it is only talk so we have to prove ourselves on the pitch during the long tough season in the Championship."

The next couple of weeks needs to see some top quality additions to the squad, and we should be very competitive. Nothing less than 2nd is good enough. Playoffs are a lottery.

I think if we do sign a striker, we will be on course to the play offs. But any top half finish in this league, means you have had a pretty good season.
