Is Elphik responsible for goal?

I was as gutted as anyone when the penalty was wrongly given but:-

Hand ball is cheating and the officials are bound to punish. If you handle the ball on the edge of the penalty area the officials have to make a split second decision on if it is in or out. In spite of rumors to the contary, referees and linesmen are only human, sometimes they get it wrong.

The solution. Do not cheat in the first place.

Elf and Fletcher both had their hands up in the air , when the ref went over to the lino I thought it was to tell him the free kick should be awarded to us , could it be when the ref gave Bournemouth the free kick , the lino adjudged the offence took place in the box as he was looking back at them instead of being level ?

If you mean being pushed by some caveman of a striker towards a ball that was coming at him high and fast more than 20 yards from goal and with no immediate danger then seeing a penalty given despite being outside the box and for handball when it is totally unclear whether he touched it with his hand, even with the efforts of the prehistoric oaf that is Steve Fletcher, then yes, I suppose he is totally at fault.

Even on the seagulls website they say it was unclear if it was even Elphick's hand yet there's not much mention of it on here. So do we even know it was his hand? Could the ref even be sure it was his hand? It seems ridiculous the whole thing...

I'm still not convinced it was even Elphick's hand looking at slo-mo replays. The whole thing is a complete farce.

on the slow motion replay it showed it was Elf who touched it , however in real time even the ref from where he was positioned would have had difficulty in saying with 100% certainty whose hand it was.

I recorded the match and must have watched that incident at least six times using the slowest motion I could on my tv. I still have absolutely no idea who handballed it. I did think referees were meant to be CONVINCED in order to give a decision, and if I can't see it with the benefit of all the technology then that prick yesterday sure as hell cannot have. Total farce.

There ya go. IT makes it even worse that a pen was given. If they'd scored from the free kick i'd have been annoyed as it wasn't atall clear who's hand it was... And then u get threads like this from 'fans' blaming Tommy for 'cheating'

As an armchair viewer, I did mention that on here yesterday - it was difficult to see, even in replay, whose hand it was - for me it could hvae been either. Admitedly, Elphics' hand should not have been up there in the first place.
Must admit, when the ref went over to the lino, it thought it was because our guys were saying it was Fletchers and the decision would be reversed.. It never ocured to me, it might be given as a pen.

But, we move on.

Watched it slow mo on my tv about 15 times. I think it has hit their players hand, then Elphick's - about 30% sure. Now, if I have technology and 15 replays on my side, and I STILL don't know who handled it, how the f*** did the referee?!?!

Not just that - neither had gained, or were trying to gain an advantage. They were jumping AWAY from goal for goodness sake.

Oh, and it was outisee of the area, and the linesmen was in the compleely wrong position (to give the penalty).

Yeah, definitely Elphick's fault.

Actually, I wouldn't have been too bothered had they scored from the free kick. In that case, the ref would simply have made a judgment on the 'offence' and if he had got it wrong then fair enough, it happens. At least it would have been a 50/50 call that could go either way. With what happened to us yesterday (regarding it being outside the box) and also against Rochdale they were not judgments, they were FACTUALLLY INCORRECT. It actually went entirely against the rules of the game to give both of those penalties. Had it been a foul or incident that everyone can have a different view on then I would never blame a ref, but when it is actually as though these bastards are totalling ignoring the rules of the game then I'm just left hoping someone put a brick through his window last night.

Agree - Factually Incorrect is a great term. And it's not often that decisions are factually incorrect - often they're opinion aren't they. You prob get 1 factually incorrect big decision every 3 seasons following a team maybe?!

Glad you mentioned Rochdale as I got shit on here for saying the incorrect award of a pen cost us 2 points (which i still stand by) and yesterdays one clearly did... Also Sheff Weds, weren't they lucky to have 11 on the pitch too?

We've had woeful luck this yr and are still top of the league - the signs are good!

the handball is almost irrelevent. the linesman is in no position, with about about 3-4 players obsructing his view and not in line with the incident to able to make sucha tight call. he had no business flagging the ref and is wholey responsible for the penatly since he in effect gave it.

should be suspended from officiating games for 6 months and made to redo lino school or whatever.
