I think he has the ability to be an asset but as it has always been it is the question of attitude that needs to be answered. On current evidence he seems not to be giving the necessary response and you have to say it isn't the first time

Coxy has the ability to play well and to succeed. But is obviously not doing the right things in training.
He probably thinks he is better than he is.

Has been a great player for the Albion in recent times. Only HE can answer as to why he is not on the pitch ahead of the likes of Carole et al.
If conflicting factors are affecting his performances/ career then thats upto him to sort it out.

Would hate to see him move on, but if he's not upto it, then what else does Gus do. Time for him to pull his finger out maybe.?

Better than Carole, better than Hart, better than Aaron Davies and better than Mark Wright, yet still frozen out. Something is going on.

I reckon he'll end up at Southampton with Wilkins and will prove the doubters wrong.

apparently Cox threw a tantrum in training last week.

Isn't it obvious, Poyet is gradually freezing out the players he thinks aren't good enough (Whing, Livermore, Tunnicliffe), are big time Charlie's/a disruptive influence (Cox, Dickinson, Davies) or are too old/expensive/outspoken (Kuipers, Forster). Not sure about McNulty, perhaps his injury is holding him back.

Hoyte is probably only here to keep in Wenger's good books.

The reason Gary Hart plays and Dean Cox doesn't is attitude. If you throw on Gary Hart, you're getting 100% effort and determination, but if you throw on Cox you get someone who might play a stunning pass and do something decisive. But, probably not.

I think Cox's main problem is that he's not as good as he thinks he is.

Not sure about this, I've met Dean Cox a couple of teams and he comes across as a thoroughly nice down the earth lad, I can't say I see anything arrogant about him. aside from that I think Cox needs to sort his wide play out, I think in the past few games we have seen how top class wingers play, Cox unfortunately is far to predictable in the way he plays, on his day, he can be a class act, but unfortunately this isn't very often.:(

rumours have been doing the rounds for a while now about cox and dickinson on the piss in haywards heath on a pretty regular basis

he has already shipped out dickinson for the rest of the season which was a questionable decision based on ability and other options, so there could have been more to it. just a hunch, but i think cox's absence could be put down to the exact same reason - especially if those rumours are true

if so, its a good marker that poyet isnt going to take any crap from those players with questionable attitudes - a firm hand on the rudder is something we've been crying out for

Not suggesting he's arrogant in a general sense, Wizard old boy. I'm sure he's a top lad, but maybe his work ethic is affected by his self-image of his abilities? Just a theory...

Was about to post something similar. Poyet is being ruthless with his squad selection and weeding out all the players with the wrong attitude.

As a manager you want 20 players who will run through a brick wall if you told them to. Poyet said when he first came the he thinks players should live and breathe football, obviously a few players in the last few seasons have had too many other things on their minds.

Hopefully he's clearing the way for some quality signings in the summer.

Hasn't Poyet said he sees Cox playing more centrally?

I've always felt that Cox was a central midfielder trapped in the body of a 12 year old winger.

If we continue to play 451, I would expect to see Cox come in and play as one of the central 3 if one of Dicker, Crofts or Navarro gets injured.

He is just out of favour at the moment, like Virgo was for example.

With the new formation he could be a good option in the midfield 3. Overreaction to suggest his time is up, likewise with McNulty. He is still young, don't write him off already.

Cox isn't good enough I'm afraid..in patches he can look like a world beater but if we are serious about our ambitions we needs consistent players.

Agreed. He’s like Robinson before him, in patches looks class but not consistent enough. Just to survive in this league you have to be on your game every week or you get beat. You just can’t guarantee that Coxy will deliver and I guess Gus is trying to build a team with 0 passengers hence his omission.
