Is blanket Olympics coverage turning you off the whole thing?

to those of you actively damning the games. Just **** off out of the country you boring, miserable, whining little ****tards. The country's better of without you.

no, the country is better off with out the games. you haven't had to pay for it, get disrupted by it and had your work made twice as hard because of it. there is only a passing interest in athletics and whole ethic and spirit of the Olympics is debased by a sponsored juggernaut of hypocrisy and double standards.

Is the correct answer.

It's great to have something else in the sport sections of the newspapers to get your teeth in to. Sick and tired of skim reading pages and pages of the perfect world of football. I've read pretty much everything on offer (in the newspapers that cross my path) and look forward to reading more.

Thanks, your attitude perfectly encapsulates why I now hate with a passion the whole Olympics circus. I hate Coe, I hate Chris Kellog Hoy and all the other grasping capitalists balls deep in the games, I hate Heineken for excluding bitter, I hate Coke, I hate the special olympic VIP lane, I hate all the politicians for putting their egos before the financial good of this country. Most of all I hate being told how great its going to be......what? Rythmic gymnastics, greek wrestling, archery, shooting, the modern pentathlon.......f*** OFF......f*** RIGHT OFF. The only bright spot for me is that we may have an army of Trenton Oldfields waiting to get involved.

Slightly off topic from the main question, but might be of interest to those mentioning the "lucky" ones who got tickets. James Pearce of BBC has posted this link to instructions for the Spanish sale - sign up now if you want to get involved when they go on Monday: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aCbbAnPxHBqxjj7wNkiQOcbc4DDQxOCgBrBkOtYLgh0/edit?pli=1 (yes it's in English).

I got a few through the Danish sale myself a couple of months ago. Big events like athletics aside, luck needn't play any part in whether or not you go to the Olympics - legitimate routes to tickets are out there.

I was completely turned off the whole thing from the very start. Complete and utter waste of money and full of pointless sports.

That encapsulated the whole stupid olympic circus perfectly. Well said that man.

If the Olympics were taking place at the bottom of my garden I wouldn't even bother drawing the curtains.

Am interested in some of the Sports - Athletics, enjoays ago, rather than to gfoy Rowing and have always enjoyed cycling, even before we were good at it.

But certainly not interested in any old thing, just for the sake of it, didn't bother applying for any tickets - a real rip off - and am likely to be on holiday for at least some of the Olympic Period. My wife is in education so limited in when we can go away, and are certainly not going to have a stay at home holiday for the Olympics.

And am thoroughly sick of all the hype at the moment, wish it was 100 days ago rather than to go, couldn't give a monkey's whether the Olympic Torch is coming anywhere near my road, am highly unlikely to watch the opening ceremony - never do, wherever it is - and am deeply cynical about all the commercial/sponsorship stuff going on. It won't make me any more likely to drink Coke or have a macDonalds. In fact I am more likely to avoid the brands involved just to be contrary.... or as a protest.

And agree with what has been posted above that while it is Cameron/Johnson basking in the Glory now, it was Blair and Livingstone who probably did all the hard work.

I just hope that, after it is all other, the good people of Stratford and other places which have had to put up with it all will actually reap some sustainable benefit - that's the only good reason for doing it in my view, and even then at what cost.

I live in SW20 and ideally would be relocating to BN15 (North Lancing where mum lives) for it if it weren't for work commitments. Anyone who wants to visit London/Wimbledon can pitch a tent in my garden for £10 per night (5 mins from Raynes Park train station). Water supply and electricity included. I'd go to the mountain biking if it was in Surrey (excellent landscape for it) but it's in Essex (regeneration legacy logic) so won't bother. I'll get some tickets for the blind football and other paralympics stuff but the transport during the olympics will be a nightmare (unless on a bike).

Unbelievable how many boring old farts are on here. So there will be a bit of disruption. Would you be so pissed off if we had the world cup here? I'd also like to see links to all the studies regarding the economic effect whether positive or negative. As for blanket coverage, that must be an overexageration. Personally, I'm looking forward to it. I will pick and chose what events I watch on the telly and also have tickets for what could be a GB gold in the pool.

Finally, where does it say that central london construction is stopping during the period of the olympics?
