Genuinely interested in what the good people on NSC think on this.

Probably best to declare my own stance. I am not someone who was 'not interested' to start with. Like many on here, a big sports fan, not only football. I have been lucky enough to get a couple of tickets, albeit for non high profile events, and I think as an event it will be great.

But I am getting sick of the three pages of previews in every paper from about seven months out. Is ANYONE actually reading all of this stuff, when there is other sport actually taking place NOW?

Throw in the endless non-stories like 100 days to go, and the fact that Coe has every media organisation in his pocket and there are virtually no negative stories, I'm getting sick of it. For me, there isn't now much left to say until people start winning and losing.

I'm very excited and am interested to read about it. So many human angles, so much expectation.

At a time when our own government has done a great job of talking us down so much so that now they need to engender positivity they can't, its great to think of something positive to cover.

We are way ahead in terms of facilities, they are built and good quality. The infrastructure (travel mainly) needs to be on its game and people will need to avoid the usual english trait or not recognising our own achievements and not viewing the minor inconveniences in terms of the bigger picture.

I'm genuinely excited - can't get enough Olympic coverage. I am, however, one of the lucky ones that managed to get tickets.

Wow. Unlike you to put a random spin on a topic to have a snide dig at the Government. Genuinely surprised.

My reaction to the Olympics? Meh. Hop we get more Golds than the Aussies, that's the only thing that matters to me really

I'm looking forward to it, but not that much more than normal.

I'm out of the country for part of it though

I wouldnt say it was a snide dig - I thought it was quite blatant.

In any case, we can all thank Tony Blair for his diplomatic efforts in securing the victory and helping secure the games for us. he did a very sound job and what a pity that it couldnt be repeated for the 2018 world cup.

To be honest I'm pretty bored with the whole build up/countdown and I really could not give a flying f*** about the torch relay.

BUT..... I am really looking forward to seeing the action once it gets underway. My boss has also pretty much given me the green light to steer clear of London whilst it's on, so I should be able to catch an awful lot of it in HD whilst 'Working from home'

Not being to get to work is going to f*** me off as well.

Hopefully I can work from home for 2 weeks.

I wasn't in the slight bit interested before and I'm even less interested now the coverage has ramped up.

Cycling indoors, what's that made up farce, I tried in around my living room & ended up with my head buried in the sofa. Never again

I remember similar scepticism about the Tour de France coming to Kent and East Sussex, back in 1994.

Who's interested in a few drugged up foreigners riding push bikes? The traffic disruption will ruin my day. No-one will turn up to watch. What a waste of money.

On the day, it turned out to be a fantastic event that we still look back on as one of the highlights of the nineties.

Meopham, Kent.
No.

Is "blanket coverage" really an issue in these days of a zillion tv channels?

How many billions of pounds of public money did we spend on the tour?
At the very worst it might have caused traffic problems for a weekend and maybe another day or to. The olympics will probably lose Britain and London money from tourism for the whole summer.
