Like him or loathe him, he's got an unbelievable career behind him at the ripe old age of 31. He has 93 England caps, 7 FA cups, 3 Premier League titles, 1 League Cup, 3 Charity shields and now 1 Champions League.

So, will he be remembered as one of England's greats?

He will be remembered for shagging horrible women.

But yes, he is one of the greatest Left Backs of all time. I would say he's been the best in the world for the best part of a decade now.

Probably not. I think he's outstanding for both club and country but never really gets the recognition he deserves.

He's England's best player and one of the best defenders in the world at the moment.

He was superb last night. He's had a great season. It's just a shame that so many footballers, especially, it would seem, English footballers, are seemingly odious human beings.

He's still the best left back in the world. And yes his record speaks for itself.

One of the things that makes Ashley Cole a great player is that he always seems to perform in the big games (for club and country). Unlike some of his team-mates.

However - as others have observed - he is and always will be a complete arse of a bloke.

For his position, clearly the best in the world at the moment - good enough to appear on anyone's list of all time greats. Of course it isn't a glamour position so memories will be shorter than for a striker. Unfortunately for Cole his off-field antics are sufficiently lurid to remain in the public imagination to a much greater degree.

Give a young man celebrity and more money than they can spend and sit back and watch, through the eye of a camera and a greedy press, how they cope. The answer is - often not very well.

Depends on your definition of greatest, if we are talking purely on game time then probably yes although will probably be marked down by not being in a team that actually challenged for a trophy. If you are talking about as a role model all round person no chance too much baggage making him one of the greatest bellends to play the game.
