Is anyone else mildly excited about our midfield?

Are you sure Brooker and Cullip where on loan; as I recall it we bought them outright in the first place. Zamora was on loan before we bought him though.

What would your team for Saturday be, BG? I wouldnt be surprsied if Savage starts on the bench, I dont think he'll be fully fit and he'll have only had a few training sessions. It's inevtiable he will play some part in the game though.

Having played at the highest level for so long, do you think his, what surely is a better football brain than the rest of our sqaud, will read Murray's runs quicker and lay him the ball sooner?

Cor that's a nice thought, a midfielder with the brains to utilise Murray's absolute QUALITY.

If we can keep 1 or 2 of those loanees on then yes, but if not, do we face a situation akin to last season? Fantastic beginning until contracts started running out...

Was our last season a fantastic beginning though? I've seen people comparing the early form as less than brilliant.

A couple of promising players proved disappointing if you ask me, especially that Irishman turned dressing-room pariah.
After those fires were out, so were three or four players, but I thought we replaced them and at no financial cost.
I doubt we'd have finished better than 7th, but if we had, we certainly wouldn't be doing anything great in the Championship by now - if we can't do better than mid-table in this division!

Think what it wil be like once McCleod's fit!

(LM),McCleod
(RM) Anyinsah
(CM) Savage
(CM) Thornton

surely this line-up is Championship quality with all the qualties needed for the perfect midfield- width(McCleod), Pace(Anyinsah),Creativity(Thornton) and bite (Savage)

Absolutely, its very important to remember that we have McLeod coming back as well! Lets just hope he stays fit, quality player IMO

I would like the team to be:

FDM

Virgo
Elphick
Hawkins
Richards

Ayinsah
Savage
Thomson
Cox

Murray
Forster

Subs;

Sullivan
El Abd
Livermore
Robinson
Thornton (can he play wide, if so change him and Cox)

but I am not the manager and expect Whing to start at Right back with Virgo in midfield and Savage on the bench for first 60 mins then Whing be replaced by Savage and Virgo drop back. I think that playing Virgo in midfield with our current choice is a waste of his talent.

Out of interest why would you play Thomson instead of Thornton?
Personally I see Thornton as the potential answer to our lack of creativity in midfield so would start him ahead of Thomson (who although good vs Man City has been poor the rest of the season).
Agree with you about Virgo - I too expect him to start in midfield with Savage on the bench. Hope not though.
I see the wide left position as interesting. It will go to McLoeod when fit but not sure who will be picked there before he is back.

With Savage and thornton we should be able to create havoc in this division - Can't wait.

Savage may just save Dick yet.

I think that Thomson is a very underated player on here and I think that he should be one of the first names on the team sheet plus I didnt go to Northampton so havent seen Thornton play yet.

I'd agree. Do you think Murray will benefit from Savage? I think Murray will enjoy having him in midfield.
