These aren't the players you're looking for.

With respect, is there much pedigree in Ireland? I can think of maybe 3 Irish players in the last twenty years who would improve our team at their peak (Roy Keane, Evans, Robbie Keane).

Brighton. NOT KEMPTOWN!
Shay Given, Damien Duff, Niall Quinn, Seamus Coleman, Ian Harte, Denis Irwin, to name a few.
But apart from that, what have the Romans done for us?

Which one? I know Keane was invited over but decided not to bother as he was worried about being homesick.
That isn't what Roy claims happened in his biography. He says the club pulled the invite for a trial a night or two before he was due to come over.

Who is your top attacking prospect and can we have him?
Zefi. Gone to Inter. BREXIT cost Brighton there. Saw him play at 11 with his own age group and was like yep he probably will be a world class baller. looked like a young hazard. I have never seen a kid that good so young.

Bare in mind he is mostly 13 here playing up age groups. He is 17 now and destroying teams underage at Inter (2 goals a game) and training with seniors.Even newspapers there saying he is totally dominant and too good for underage ball. Prob a year before he makes a debut. If he doesn't he should leave. Inter don't have a great record with youth.

Given the lads name, I think having the word 'Irish' in the thread title is fairly superfluous in this instance.

Hopefully fills the gaping gap in the front of the u21s so that we can stop playing players out of position

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Apparently he's 18 already and hasn't made a single appearance in the Premier league, let alone scored
Recruitment team OUT. Simply not young enough.

Going back a few years with a lot of them, and they're hardly world beaters.

@Nialler thanks for your reply, it puts things in perspective.

Shay Given = 450 prem games, 01/02 and 05/06 PFA Team of the Year
Damian Duff = 2x Premier League Winner, 00/01 PFA Team of the Year, 02 UEFA Team of the Year
Seamus Coleman = 241 prem games, 13/14 PFA Team of the Year
Ian Harte = 237 prem games, 99/00 PFA Team of the Year
Denis Irwin = 7x Premier League Winner

Maybe not 'world beaters' but some very good players.

Can't think of any real quality Equadorians in recent history, probably why Caicedo, Estupinan and Sarmiento are no use to us.

Again, you're going back two decades here. I could list a bunch of Spanish, German, Dutch, Croatian, Portuguese and Danish players who are world class within the last 8 years. There's a reason Ireland or ROI don't do well in big tournaments.

I'm not trying to be facetious, I just don't think the Isle of Ireland produces much talent too often to get excited about.

In our squad, the top players we have come from the historic hotbeds of talent of Japan, Equador, and Eastbourne.
We have a great Dutch player at the moment, but have had a couple of gash ones recently in Locadia, and Kemy Agustein. It's a bit daft to think a youngster is more or less likely to succeed, based on what other unrelated people from the same area may have achieved in the past.
When looking for players for the academy to develop, we can no longer bring over a young Spanish Goalkeeper prospect, we are limited to the UK and Ireland in that regard now, this lad is 18 already so not the same issue, but has probably come to the clubs attention because of or youth scouting. I expect to see a few more young Irish Players coming to us in the next few years, because the rest of the UK there is usually another PL club on the doorstep, our club have established good scouting networks and contacts in Ireland, where the competition for the young players is less likely to be a problem than say North West England, or London.
Edit. There is still a barrier to signing even Irish Youth players because of Brexit, unless their parents relocate to England for a non football reason, which is technically possible for a 16 year old from anywhere, just not so easy to get parents from elsewhere to relocate.

Very interesting.

He looks to be a total natural in terms of ball control and dribbling but his passing game obviously needs to develop a lot which you’d expect to happen as he gets older.

Just to note that he has appeared 8 times for Ireland U19s but is yet to register a goal (although I’m sure they’ll come). A little surprising that he was not involved in any of the 6 goals in this amazing Euro qualifier match?

A lot less surprising (for those of us who understand how brilliant the Albion’s scouting is) that O’Mahony got a hat-trick. Could he be as good as Ferguson?

Irwin and Keane would be in my best ever prem 11 from a pop of 500k in the city. I think like 14 prem leagues is decent pedigree? Damien Duff, Carr improves Brighton. I do think you have a point though. I think you would have to understand what happened internally in Irish football to realise it is now a goldmine over here.

Brightons competition is now AC Milan/Inter/B Munich/PSV. They are all here now because of BREXIT and changes to football here so you no longer have a clear run at them. Irish young players are now criminally undervalued. All our underage teams are now ranked in the top 10 in Europe again. Our front 3 in about 4 years time will probably be out of Brighton's reach. I include Evan in that. I still don't think even think Evan is our top attacking prospect. There is a lot of players coming behind him.

I do think Collins at Wolves and Kelleher at Pool improve Brighton too.
Yeah I agree with all that

Yeah I agree with all that. As you mention Brexit it's worth remembering that Brighton was the most pro-Remain city in the UK and I believe a recent poll on here showed 78% of us were/are against it leaving the EU. Also, there is a substantial first and second generation Irish population down here on the south coast. Including Liam Brady who lives in Hove...
