This is where we have been found out , managers have sussed out that Painter is a plodder at left back and once beaten is more than likely to give away a foul in a dangerous position , similarly they know Calde will bomb forward and struggle to get back into position and then stand off and allow the cross to go in.

I can't work out if you're disagreeing with me or what. Your last reply seemed to suggest you thought we couldn't press the opposition because we'd give away fouls, this one seems to suggest that calderon not pressing is the weakness they've identified (incidentally, in the palace and leeds games it was the whole team who stood off, so with respect to this aspect of our defensive problems I don't think picking one player out for it deals with the problem)

I can well believe that, but surely he should have moved on to others?

In my opinion, he's so focused on 'our style' that he's more interested in players at the back who can knock the ball around rather than those who can actually defend.

Do you really believe that? I think he wants defenders who can do BOTH, but he'll have realised that there are those who aren't up to it at this level. If you can think back to when he origionally came here, we were similarly shipping loads of goals & he made it his priority to sort that out. As frustrating as it is for everybody at the moment, I'm sure he's working hard to resolve our current defensive frailties - & he'll sort it out (again). He's not an idiot.

Our problem appears to be that we cannot defend and that we need somebody who can attack and win the ball in the air at the back. Neither Dunk nor Greer are very good in the air. As it stands unless Gus signs somebody we will continue to lose until El Abd is back to attack the ball in the box.

My point was about Championship players being a bit more savvy and if we don't change things around to match them we will get punished time and time again. It wasn't until the Leicester game that Sven Goran Erickson identified how to stop our flowing style. Tie up Painter and Calde in defence and we cannot play tippy tappy for 90 minutes , get past Painter and he'll commit a foul , Calde will back off if he is there or we become reliant on a midfielder to cover for him after he has run 60 yards down the wing and we've lost possession. The whole team takes a collective responsibility for the errors on the pitch.

And yes, of course he'll sort it out. The one thing I have no doubts about is that Gus is ruthless. We've had four poor games in a row now. I don't think it's long before one or two established players' careers here are all but over. "It was Premier League versus League One players" he's just said on the radio.

Yup I think he's given pretty well all last year's heroes a run and now he'll wield the axe on those that are not coming up to scratch consistently., I have no doubt that he is totally ruthless but leaves players in no doubt as to what he expects.

If Leicester can hold on to their lead , its good news. Scum will drop down to 12th place.

Another bad day at the office... But we will come good I'm sure of that.

My main concern as stated before the season kicked off is that without the ball, we really aren't good enough! We need to show more desire in getting the ball back and causing the opposition into making mistakes, just as they do with us at the moment! We are lacking ability in defence but to be fair to them, that is caused by the midfield giving the ball away too cheaply IMO... A plan B is also required when things aren't going our way!

I think we should be satisfied with our current position as it stands but a couple of long term loans can improve competition for starting places and give a wake up call to those that need it.

I'm still convinced that Gus will turn things around and hopefully in time for the next game!

It won't be for long if we keep this up. We have dropped 11 points out of the last 12.
I don`t think we have lost more than 2 games on the trot under gus thats a good record for any Manaager let alone one that is new in that role,he will sort it out. There will be extra training over the next couple of weeks probably with some games against our youth team.

Such a strange performance Carlos Edwards was their right back but was the most dangerous attacker in the first half and then to let Chopra do the same move twice to get his goals was shocking. We just don't seem to want to close people down and let them run at us, its all very strange. Once we had lumped the ball up to CMS (mainly Ankergren) for the 5th time and he was beaten to the header surely it was time to play to his strength and get him working down the channels.
