I can't say that I have put last night's match behind me yet but looking forwards to a big reaction and 3 points at Ipswich. I've got the lucky tickets
Yep, can't wait for Ipswich now. I haven't put last night behind me at all, but a stonkingly good win, and plenty of the old tippy-tappy football will help me get on the road to recovery.
After last nights tongue lashing from Gus the boys will know what is expected of them. Albion fans at Portman Road need to be the 12th man for the entire game , we owe it to Gus and the team he selects.
BIG BIG game and test. Ipswich have the calibre of experienced players to f*** our style over just like Leicester did. Intrigued to see if Gus can change things around enough that we don't get bullied into giving away possession and end up trying to play keep ball but not really being effective in breaking them down. Interesting times for us especially as Ipswich seem to have hit form.
They've got quality, experienced midfielders in Keith Andrews, Lee Bowyer, Jimmy Bullard and Grant Leadbitter. The rest of the team (apart from Michael Chopra) looks very mediocre - strange mix and I've never liked Paul Jewell for some reason. I think a draw would be a reasonable result but hopefully they'll be a backlash after last night.
Yes we will be going to Ipswich and no, we are not morons. Yes, our team plumbed the depths last night and yes, I had a gloomy day nearly kicking the cat several times in anger and frustration. But I now realise it's time to show the Dunkirk spirit that helped save our Club from oblivion. We have come back from some horrible situations in the past. The best approach now is to get back behind the Seagulls and give them true support. This is when proper supporters stand up and get counted. Our credibility is at stake - if the fans drift away after one setback then I wouldn't blame onlookers for branding us as lightweight JCLs.
In return I expect Gus to demand a proper performance for the whole 90 mins from the team to restore everyone's faith. Since we wrapped up the League 1 title last April we seem unable to retain control of a game, playing well in spurts then worryingly go absent for periods that are proving very costly. We have the talent in our squad but need to sort out the focus and attitude. I also think it is now a test of Gus's tactical nous and will be very interested to see what happens on Saturday.
Portman Road is a compact ground and generally generates a good atmosphere. My last visit a few years ago was when the Seagulls were not at their best, already on the slide towards relegation and got off to a bad start with an own goal but came back hard for a 2-2 draw. Loanee Tony Rougier (what happened to him?) causing the tractor boys all sorts of problems and nearly nicking a precious win. Our fans created a great atmosphere, bravely taking adversity on the chin. I recall that even Mrs. SoC was on form giving her enthusiastic support inspite of having a broken arm in plaster.
Ipswich are recovering well after a crap start to the season so a similar spirited draw on Saturday would do a lot to restore our faith. A win would be a bonus.
