Hi all,

My ipod has today stopped working, it has a picture of an ipod with a sad face. It is a 5th gen classic, i dont really want to get another one, if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.

I had the same problem, checked on a few iPod forums and (seriously) the tried and tested method is the following (because the problem seems to be the hard drive connection):

Put something like a phone book on a solid surface like a table and then give the iPod a good smash onto the phone book-charging end down. This apparently knocks the drive connections back into place. Make sure that when you bang it on the phone book that the base is flat on.

If that doesn't solve the problem then you need a new hard drive.

And yes, it worked for me even though initially I thought the 'solution' was a wind-up.
