Does your computer recognise it when you connect it? If so, try the factory restore in itunes.

Have you tried holding the centre button and menu for several seconds? (might have to hold centre button and play, can't remember).

It means it's unhappy. Have you been taking it to lots of nice places recently? Buying it the odd ice cream? You know, treats.

I have a £15 mp3 player, with built in radio, that I bought from ebuyer or play (can't remember), which is still working, without fault, after 3 years.

I just don't *get* iPods.

I have an ipod classic I bought almost 4 years ago, and it's still working fine. Getting a touch for my birthday next month.

Have owned 3 iPods over about 7 years, never had any problems with any of them.

On a more helpful note for the original poster, take it with you and go see the overly friendly chaps at the Apple Store in Churchill Square.

Slightly off topic but again to do with apple. Is there an iphone holder that can fix to the windscreen of a car. I gather that the iphone gps works better when it has clear sight of the sky rather than just being on the seat, so as my gps has been quite shit it has to be worth a try. Anyone?

The alternative is blue tack on the dashboard :lolol:

I have an Itouch and it is superb, used to be anti IPODS but this thing is bloody brilliant

I have a 5.5Gen Classic, there is a fault with the charging, you charge it up, and then even if it is off, the battery drains. I have repleced the battery twice, but now think it is the logic board that is dead, not worth replacing it, now the iPod remains permanently plugged into the HiFi where it works fine. Got a new 32GB touch last week, impressive bit of kit, still finding out what else it can do.

I've had a first gen and third gen iPods, then a 1st gen Nono, a 2nd Gen Nano, the Classic and now the Touch. I personally dont think it has anything to do with its integration to iTunes, which I dont like at all. The 1st and 3rd gen iPods used Musicmatch Jukebox software to load music with. I use a variety of programs now, WinAmp is my current favourite, also trying J River Jukebox, but also iPod Agent, and Anapod.

I think the whole iPod thing is about simply liking the product, a lot. The current ones sound as good as the alternatives (so I read), they are supremely easy to use, the Touch is a whole new ball game, the rest have a lot to do to catch it up. But that is also what Apple do, they innovate, the iPhone totally caught people out, everyone was expecting an iPod with a keypad, but they raised the bar with a complete touchscreen.
I also see that Nokia are sueing them for non payment of fees or patent infringement, some such, so I imagine thay are also a bit of a bunch of plagerists too.

Oh well, just so long as someone keeps on making lovely gadgets like the iPods I'll be happy.
