It looks like the 8 is a pretty pointless minor update of the 7 which was itself a pretty pointless update of the 6.. with the headphone socket omitted.

So really the X is the only significant step forward since the 6, with the lack of bezel delivering a reduced phone size, and other tech updates. It's indicative of the lack of innovation that animated emojis are given so much time in the launch- not exactly ground breaking or life changing.

The X with a decent memory is going to be £1100-£1200? A big ask even for those who want to keep up to date..

The "Apple phones are a lot more expensive" thing has long been a myth - the top iPhone costs broadly the same as the flagship Android phones of the time.

The iPhone X (5.8" display) costs £999, the Samsung S8 (5.8" display) costs £689.

That's not broadly the same.

You can buy a decent laptop for that price. Trying to work out what phone to get next myself - either the Oneplus 5 thing or a cheap Chinese Android really not sure what to go for after my S6
