iPhone/Touch - What are the best apps??

Mendoza

NSC's Most Stalked
Having recently just got one, and not really knowing what I'm doing yet what are the best apps, preferably the free ones.

I have done the usual facebook, Ebay, Google and MMS ones

As well as one that turns your phone into a lightsabre whilst playing the Starwars theme tune, so I can charge around like a twat

I have also got Shazam and All Recipies

What else is there that the good people of NSC recommend

Google Earth, iFooty and ITN News are quite good. Also London Tube is pretty handy though it did cost a whole 59p.

MyFootball is better than iFooty....BigKeyEmail is quite handy if you send a lot of emails and find the small keyboard a bit of a pain...unfortunately there doesnt appear to be a decent application to do the same for SMS......Backgrounds is quite good if you want to change your backgrounds to decent pictures.....Texas HoldEm, Flick Bolwling and Tetris will occupy a lot of your time game wise....Nightstand turns your phone into a digital clock with alarm clock.....if you like the Lightsabre app there is also a Star Wars FX app which has most of your favourite sounds from the films.

Enjoy.

iFooty - shit name but useful for checking the football scores.
TwitterFon - if you use Twitter? Best Twitter App I've used
ITN News - does what it says on the tin
MyRail Lite - Got a feeling they might have been shut down by National Rail, but really useful app for checking trains times.
TV Plus - Set your Sky+ from your phone.
Monolopy - cracking game, kills the battery a little though
Urbanspoon - find pubs/restaurants near to where you are.

iRail is probably quite similar to MyRail, but hasn't been shut down. Does the whole of Europe too, though it doesn't update for engineering work or anything.

Sweet, I'll check it out.

My Rail still works but it had just fallen off the App Store. Rumour was national rail weren't happy with them using their content.

Amongst the others already mentioned;

ebay
facebook
shazam - lets your ipod identify a song on the radio or from another audio source
bloomberg - if you like financial news/info
night stand
Google Earth
Backgrounds

and loads of others

get on itunes, click on app store and away you go - alternatively just click on the App Store from your iphone, and get searching

all of the above should be free

Jelly Car is frustrating but a good way to pass a train journey.

The best however has to be Fieldrunners. An absolute classic.

If you're into your books, get Classics, a decent selection of good books, and a surprisingly ok way to read them.

Oh, yea good point. DEFINATELY GET SHAZAAM

Hear a track, don't know what it is, press shazaam, hold it to the speaker (or just up in the air) for like 10-12 seconds, it tells you what the song is. I've had a 90% success rate.

And it's completely FREE!

Presumably the dudes responsible for it make their income from affiliate revenue from directing punters right to iTunes to buy the track.

Great business model - good luck to them.
