Okay I know it's nothing to do with football directly but i need some help.
I am an over 50 but want one of these phones, trouble is i can't decide which one.
I love samsung phones and loads of people have said to get the new Galaxy S, problem i have is, i also know how popular the i phone is.
People have said the android os is better than apple.
I want the one that is easiest and quickest to use for the footie results etc, I'm not one for downloading loads of stuff, but I do a lot of emailing, both phones are araound the same monthly cost, oh and I don't want to move from O2 as I have been with them since , well I can't remember

I think you mean how hyped the iPhone is - the iPhone is currently third in smartphone sales globally with about 11% of the market - behind Nokia and RIM (Blackberry vendors). Android was only about 5% but is catching up fast - Android is projected to overtake Apple some time in 2011.

This is not knocking iPhone, which has a user interface that beats all competition hands-down and fantastic integration with the web, but to point out that I can't recall a product that has such a strong brand name with so little of the market.

As to your question, it's really impossible to answer. Are voice calls important to you? What email do you use? Do you need to integrate with your office applications? What sort of apps do you want?

Personally, I love my Android but that's because I use Google for email, contacts and calendar, if use a Mac, then iPhone is the only choice.I've never used any Samsung phone so can't really comment on how good it is.

I would say iPhone if you're not interested in customising every part of the device, plus I think the email app on the iPhone is better.

Although you can bookmark a live scores website on either device, I think the iPhone has better live score apps if that's your bag.

It's not if your email client is Gmail, Android is miles better.

That's why I think it's impossible question to answer - everyone has different needs, different priorities and a different computing set-up. No one phone is better than other, it's what suits your taste/interest/demands.

Right here, right now
I have an iPhone 4 and it is an awesome bit of kit so in my highly biased opinion, I would recommend the iPhone.

I don't even know what the Samsung looks like but it wiould have to be super special to beat the iPhone.

Iphone by miles, Samsung bring out new phones every week- highlighting the fact they don't spend time on development or testing.

Don't have any problem with Gmail on my iPhone, very easy to set up and works fine. All in all very happy with my iPhone and the signal problems are blown our off all proportion.

I didn't say that it didn't work or there are any problems, I just said that Gmail was simpler on an Android ie you don't have to set anything up, it automatically connects to your Gmail account.

Hmmmm it automatically works out what your username and password is?

Because setting Gmail up on the iPhone is pretty much as simple as clicking new Gmail account, enter username and password and errrrmmmmmm that's it.

I would guess the calendar integration is miles better though but that's hardly surprising as they want you to spend £60 a year on MobileMe. Even then it's not much of a drama, I just sync my Gmail calendar with iCal and set lightening to default to the Gmail calendar.

you want to draw attention to Apple's R&D department, with its innovation in how to hold the phone so it works properly?

but there is a point, im not sure Samsung is the way to go, they are a electronic device manufacturuer. HTC has been making phones for years (just not branded as them) so are probably more experienced at making quality phones. personally i think the HTC legend is the best looking phone, though iirc the Desire is the top spec one. If you need a phone primarily features secondary then you cannot beat Nokia.

.

You'd have to put username and password in whatever the email client is.

What I meant was that the Email app on Android is Gmail by default, so all you have to do is put in your details and there's your inbox - there's nothing else to do.

Other mobile phones I've had have been a pain to configure for email.

HTC Desire is insanely good, I love it! Would never recommend Samsung though, all the ones I tried felt poorly manufactured, and it needs to last two years! Both the HTC Desire and iPhone feel really solid and well made, then personally it just comes down to preference and money.

Android is tied to a google account, which is why it does that (it's also one of the negatives of Android but that's for another day)

On an iPhone you go into Settings -> Mail -> New Account -> GMail and enter your username and password as it comes preconfigured with all the settings and bob's your uncle.

Get an iPhone 4.

Its a phone, an emailer, it plays music, its an internet terminal, it plays games, its an internet radio, its a weather forecaster - it's just brilliant.

Seriously, it is the nicest piece of kit I have ever owned.

I got an HTC Wildfire at the weekend, and its a splendid bit of kit. I don't think its quite as instantly usable as an iPhone, but now I'm getting to grips with the OS properly, its proving to be very impressive.

Standard features of any smartphone now though. What it really comes down to is the hardware, not the software..

Which is what I said right at the start. I use Google for just about everything so Android is brilliant for me but it's not the same for everybody.
