No idea if they're doing similar. These are 24 month contracts. Works out worse doing it this way than simplicity I think. For the 32GB you pay up to £1,000 over the two years for the phone and the tarrif on a contract. Simplicity is £600 for the phone and then £12 a month and you get to cancel when ever you want.

Is that £12 a month with o2?

There are two simplicity options. 12 months or 30 day. I've just checked and they've put up their simplicity tarrifs now, so even that is too expensive. I think it might be time to leave o2.

3 just dropped their tariffs for the lower priced one-month contracts.

Worth doing a search on the BBC website for "mobile phone coverage". There is a user contributed map of the UK with genuine coverage info (can be a bit patchy if no-one in your area helped out, but very useful). I checked and have 3G at work, home, gf's house and most of the Amex - sorted!

Yeah a few people have told me to have a look on 3. I might have to do it. o2 are charging more than the competition.

The Lumia does look a cracking handset, but it needs to be. Nokia and Microsoft are pushing against a massive headwind

Agreed...The problem for Nokia/Microsoft and to some extent Android is that this isn't a technology battle anymore. Its about brand and at the moment Apple can release minor incremental updates knowing that people will buy the handsets as its a status symbol, not a technical choice.

o2 simplicity do a good deal. £15 ish a month. A lot better value, if you can stump upfront for the phone, than a traditional contract

So it looks like o2 really have simplified things. Calls and text messages are unlimited and Data is 1GB. Depending on how much you pay for the contract drives the price of the phone.

£26 a month | 16GB £249.99 | 32GB £359.99 | 64GB £449.99
£31 a month | 16GB £159.99 | 32GB £269.99 | 64GB £349.99
£36 a month | 16GB £099.99 | 32GB £209.99 | 64GB £269.99
£41 a month | 16GB £029.99 | 32GB £139.99 | 64GB £209.99
£46 a month | 16GB £000.00 | 32GB £089.99 | 64GB £169.99

(added the zeros in because it messed up my tables)

For £46 a month on Orange, the iPhone 5 is also free, there's also unlimited calls & texts, but you get three times as much data (3GB) on the faster 4G network. Why would anyone do that on O2?

Three 16GB Contract:

Unlimited data & tethering
2K anyone minutes
5K texts
5K 3 to 3 minutes

36 x 24 = £864

+ 70 = £934

Outright from Apple:

£529 w/

£10 p/m for 24 months = £769

£15 p/m for 24 months = £889

If you were to use 4G to it's potential, you would need an unlimited data package. 1gb p/m is just laughable.

£51 on Orange, free iPhone 5 (16GB) and unlimited calls, texts and data. With £300 coming back from the 4S, that's quite tempting.

I'm getting confused. I plan to buy the iPhone from Apple; can someone just tell me what the best deal is which will not tie me in to anything please. Thanks in advance.

That comes in at £1224
£924 after your £300 return.
Very expensive contract, seeing as 4G won't be fully available in most places for at least another year.

I'm considering switching to three which comes in at:
£934 for a 2 year contract
£190 for my iPhone 4
= £744 for pretty much unlimited everything with tethering and probable 4G service after the next 12 months.

I'm based in London though (live Zone 2, work in Soho) so I'm assuming I'll have 4G access 95% of the time. You are right though that 3 is cheaper... also tempted by buying it unlocked from Apple and seeing other no-commitment deals out there...

Ah sorry, presumed you were in Brighton.
In that case I would be very tempted to go for the £51 deal for the 4G, if tethering is included then I think I'd jump on board if I was in London.

I've only had chance to have a very quick look at http://www.sim-only.co.uk/iphone-sim-only-deals/ but nothing leaps out at me. Maybe if you've got more time you'll find something good... Please let us know if you do!

I always feel I'm the last to know about these things though. I'd never heard of GiffGaff until last week. I'll let you know how I get on.
