Can you please ensure that NSC is shut down during the announcement, so that we can all focus on this most important time, I personally don't want anything taking my attention away from all things Apple !

It goes without saying. Not least because some little ruffians get all uptight about it and will begin tweeting about how I ruin this site by being a power-crazed tosser.

Their over-the-top response is EXACTLY the sort of thing my tongue-in-cheek japes are intended to provoke.

Do Apple really need to keep releasing new versions of their products so frequently. I mean, they can't have developed any new technology in the time between iPad 2 and iPad 3, so why not combine them and just have a single upgrade?

good stuff. any rumours on the new iphone? possible august/sept release? my 3gs has done me proud up till now but i fear apple wont allow the 3gs to have any future software updates..

The 4S is selling so stupendously well that any talk of an early iPhone 5 is likely to be wrong, I think. There is no need for Apple to rush out a 5, so I wouldn't expect it until September/October as has been becoming regular.

Of course they don't NEED to. They want to, because they sell SHITLOADS. There are tonnes of people who will buy any and everything Apple release.

'stupendously'! Great word Bozza!!

Tis true!

"CUPERTINO, California—January 24, 2012—Apple® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2012 first quarter which spanned 14 weeks and ended December 31, 2011. The Company posted record quarterly revenue of $46.33 billion and record quarterly net profit of $13.06 billion, or $13.87 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $26.74 billion and net quarterly profit of $6 billion, or $6.43 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 44.7 percent compared to 38.5 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 58 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

The Company sold 37.04 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 128 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter."

Apple has just closed at over $500 a share. At the end of 2011 they were c$400 a share. That means the biggest company in the world, by market cap., has increased in value by 25% in around 6 weeks. They have $100bn cash in the bank!

Stupendous is an appropriate word.

I just bought a iPad2 this would piss me off

I'm sorry to hear that. Apple release cycles are quite widely known and discussed, to a degree, but I guess you still have to be a bit geeky to follow such stuff:

Mac Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy Your Mac, iPod or iPhone

You may be able to do something about it, particularly if you bought from an Apple Store. Apple's class-leading customer service does mean they've offered some form of rebate or cashback to those who bought just before a product refresh in the past, so if you have literally 'just bought' it might be worth popping in to see them if iPad 3 does appear soon as anticipated.
