Is that really needed? Surely if uncle Dick is interviewing 2 more then the other 2 were not to his liking?

Good post. Lets just appoint any idiot just to keep you happy rather than at least try and get the right man.

It makes perfect sense. Anyone who has been involved in empolying people before will tell you that not all interviewees are neccessarily employable.

Obviously Knight offered the job to Gannon. Gannon turned down the job. The other interviewees may not have been employable and therefore Knight has now decided to interview more candidates.

I know a company that was in serious debt, yet took three attempts at recruitment (over six months) to get in a Cheif Exec to come in and turn things around. The business in question had reached a compromise agreement with the clearly incompetant manager to get them out quickly and hence avoid any appeal/court cases. Obvoiusly they did not want this to happen, but you can't put any muppet in charge of a business. As I am sure you will agree, you can't put any muppet in charge of a football team either.

(by the way - I am not advocating that we take six months to appoint a manager, I am merely illustrating that often recruitment can take a lot longer than you initially wished, especially if the previous manager has left unexpectedly)

At least he's abandoned plans to make them race round the athletics track to see who gets the job.

Of course it is needed
You are probably right. The first two were quite possibly good but did not feel quite right. The next two may be better or may indeed serve to highlight why one of the others would after all be the best option right now from what is available.
What is essential is that after today we make a choice and move forward before it is too late for the new guy to make an impact.

The veiled hint at a short term appointment is interesting though maybe a touch concerning

Using Fozzie's logic, why even interview two. Just give it to the first one because he's clearly the man for the job.

Is it possible that all four have some merit and that DK might like to speak to them all to find out about them and their view of the Albion? Also - given that the interview is a two way street - it's possible they may want to ask questions of DK? Short of having them all in a room together, he's got to interview someone first!

Wasn't someone moaning DK wasn't interviewing enough people the other day?

In my experience 2-5 people get interviewed for a job.

here's a hypothetical:

Paul ince sees our manager's position is vacant, does some digging, sees how much we spent in the transfer window, thinks "lower league club, on the down, no detriment to my repurtation if they go down, but they have money"

He applies.

Adie Boothroyd does the same.

Dick Knight sees Jim Gannon, asks for permission to speak to him, Jim Gannon comes in for an interview out of politeness.

Dick interviews Jim Gannon, get's positive vibes, money not an issue, all comes down to if Gannon wants to leave a club he loves, one he put a plan in to help save and wants to see the plan through. He doesn't.

Paul Ince comes in for the interview, finds out the money we had was spent in January and we don't have any more to go round, so he becomes less enthusiastic.

Boothroyd is less than enthusiastic about the drop down to League 1, and seems aloof and just a generally unpleasant person who Knight can't take to.

So what is Dick Knight to do, wait for one of these to say "oh, go on then"? Take on someone he can't stand and can't work with (worked well with Wilkins, didn't it?)? or see if any of the other applicants/targets might be more interested/up for the challenge/more suited?

I get what you're saying "he narrowed it down to three, and now he changes his mind and wants to widen it to five, why? whatever was wrong with the first 3 now was surely an issue then", but it isn't always that simplistic.

I disagree. I think that any candidate interviewed last week would have had the stigma of being second choice to Gannon. If they have two new candidates who maybe weren't considered last week then they could well have been first choice last week too. I am encouraged that they didn't just go for the second candidate on their list straight away.

We have had so many managerial changes recently, the last thing we want is to hire the wrong person again although I am discouraged by the fact that Knight is talking about keeping on Dean White as I think we need a fresh start.

As the Argus were saying, a lot of fans now think we are down so the new manager is in a no lose situation. Take us down, blame it on Adams, injuries etc and start again to build your own squad in League Two (as a lot of players will leave if we go down).

Alternatively, keep us up and be an instant hero. Start off with quite a decent squad in League One as when everybody is fit you have a good side but still there are quite a few out of contract back up players who will leave so you can still start to mould your own squad.

So who is the 4th man in the running? We think Knight has seen Boothroyd and Pardew and may see Ince today (??) but who is the other? (not including Gannon of course). Dowie? Holloway?

Forster? White? Adam El Abd?

Tony Adams?

It is anybody's guess.

I reckon Gannon is still one of the four. I think it is us not willing to meet his demands (whatever they may be) at the moment. It's unlikely he will come but I reckon he is one of the 4 still being considered.

Boothroyd, Pardew, Ince, Gannon

And I'd be happy with any one of them

Too soon for Forster although if the club are wise they'll offer him a player/coach role in the summer. And it won't have been White. Doubt also Tony Adams would have been interviewed but you never know. Maybe after all last week's leaks etc surrounding Gannon, it's a good thing we're all in the dark.

Or based on the ramblings of some on here? They seem to know how easy it is running a football club that barely has a pot to piss in...
