Advise please NSC.

Have and interview tomorrow within the same company that I work for now but for a different position.
I know they are going to ask the question 'what are your weaknesses'.
Its only an office job working on customer support.

Any sensible suggestions as I hate that question but can not think of a original answer. ???

Well due to the nature of my job I say 'my strength is also my weakness, I'm a jack of all trades and master of none'. It's actually true as I can cover all aspects it IT Support but am not a specialist in anything in particular. Not always applicable so say 'Well I am restless when not busy'. It's a bit like turning a negative into a positive.

I thought most companies have stopped asking that question as it prompts the usual, I am a workaholic, I am a perfectionist..... etc...

As it is your existing company I'd be honest (to a degree!), there was an instance in the last year when I did X.... I believe I have learnt from that mistake and I ensure that I will not make it again type thing. If you have annual reviews mention anything that was raised there, I have been told that I need to improve on Y by my current manager, I am working hard to overcome this.

My personal take on this, having been both sides of the interview, is to say something honest, but to say (hopefully also honestly!) that it is something that you are aware of and working on. For example my last (internal promotion) interview I said that it was my organisation, but that it was something I was addressing by i) increasing my use of electronic calendar and ii) increasing communication with other team members. This showed that I was aware that I had flaws but was taking steps to improve them myself.

I belive the correct answer if you are asked this question is

"When no ones looking I like to masturbate into the kettle in the staff kitchen. Also i like sticking my colleagues pens up my bum"

I would, if possible, stick to things that have already been mentioned in your appraisal/yearly review. If you don't, your boss may want to ask why you have not mentioned this before (if she/he is on the panel).

I would also tell the panel ways that you have developed yourself to overcome your weaknesses, especially if your company have helped you through their staff development scheme.
