I thought he came across quite well. Again pointing out the hypocracy of the US and sadly this country.

Haven't heard or seen the interview and don't disagree for one minute that there is a good deal of hipocracy in the positions of both the USA and the UK relating to the Middle East.

Bit of the old pot calling the kettle black though.

In my opinion the arabs (and many other muslims) are among the biggest hypocrits on earth. I have lived in the Gulf so I do know what I'm talking about. No alcohol or gambling in their own countries, women covered .... and the moment they're out of the country what do they do? Get drunk and chase western women. The hundreds of Saudis who drive across the causeway to Bahrain every weekend are there to do just that ... escape their own country's ban on alcohol and sleaze. And then they have a short break from the womanising to go to daily prayers. Bloody hypocrits the lot of them.

Ex wife was a croupier and from what she said I can't argue with the above comments. Girlfriend is in UAE and they all love watching highly illegal porn there too.

A bit like them ranting on about the West and Western society whilst wearing a Nike baseball cap and drinking a can of coke

You are talking about people born into a Muslim society, not necessarily practising Muslims. Presumably, you would apply the same reasoning of hypocrisy to Christians or a Christian society then?

Not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery, turning the other cheek and so on and so on.

By all means consider Muslim hypocrites, but why only pick on them? Personally, I would be careful throwing stones at other religions when they can quite easily throw the same stones back at you. Better still, just consider all religious set-ups and institutions as hypocritical and you will find yourself on much safer ground.

'Them'? Who are 'them?' Fellow humans from other countries and another cultures - i.e. ragheads? I suppose I am just very impressed that you can characterise hundreds of milliions of people in one phrase. That's plain awesome.

I don't think anybody is citing moslems in particular as we all know about the falibilty of Christians. However, there's no question that what they do in a Muslim state and what they do elsewhere varies greatly, more so than that other religious hypocrits.

To be honest I didn't open this thead for it to become awash with anti muslim small mindedness.

I'm not a fan of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but he was voted in in a democracy probably fairer than Bush.

However, the point of the thread was to highlight the nonscence anti arab stance the west (and I include us) take.

Iran support terrists?

Who funded/Trained Bin Laden?
Who funded the IRA?

Iran supply weapons to Hezbollah?
USA supply weapons to Israel.

Iran has capital punishment.
The USA kill far more people.

I just get fed up with the finger pointing and taring with the same brush that goes on in the media.

Don't you think there has been enough posted on here one way and another?

All the worlds leaders are power-hungry and wanting to leave their mark on the world. The fact is that Bush is no different to Mahmoud, Bush just has more resources at his disposal.

Mahmoud now has an excuse to do what the hell he likes because Iraq was such a catastrophe, as we all knew it would be. Not even Bush is daft enough to go into Iran now.

But saying publicly that Israel needs to wiped from the face of the earth is totally unacceptable, despite Israel being a totally unnecessary destructive force in the Middle East side right now.

Have the debate by all means, but not just to try and get small-mindedness out on the open.

I've read that response three times and it STILL doesn't make sense?!??

It has since been the opinion that hes was mis quoted about his speech on Israel being wiped off the map. A more accurate translation is wiped off the page. Anyway it is no suprise that he doesn't like Israel. Show me an arab nation that does like them?

During the interview every argument they came up with against him, he was able to throw right back at them.

I'm not say he is right. What I'm saying is that both sides are wrong, and wrong in exactely the same way.

Agree with you. Pretty much ALL religious people are hypocrites.

They can't throw stones back at me ... as an atheist I don't have to live with beliefs and rules I don't believe in.

Support atheism for a more peaceful world!!

That'll be because I have made three points in one post. And the bit about wrong and wrong in exactly the same way was exactly the point I was trying to make.

My issue was don't try and open a thread simply for small-minded responses. Have the debate by all means, but this issue is becoming increasingly dangerous for everybody, and does not need more racist and religious mud-slinging brought into the open.

OK I said:

"...I didn't open this thead for it to become awash with anti muslim small mindedness."

Then you said

"...don't try and open a thread simply for small-minded responses."

This is a great thread Lammy and i agree that is the first time i have seen him interviewed and he was so different to what the media have made him out to be.
Finally all he was saying in regards to Israel is that the Holocaust happened in Germany so why did they make over 2 million people refugees after that in Palestine and make it a Jewish state.Because of their guilt they have brought endless suffering to the Palestinians.

Heard an intersting fact from a mate the other day, England is the most secular state in the world.
We are quite lucky that we don't have to put up with all that religous hypocricy you talk about!!!
