A chap came to repair our landline telephone cable yesterday and was telling me of either a cable or wireless connection from the broadband to TV to receive more channels and streams etc direct to he TV. What do I actually need to buy to do this and is it effective, Ask NSC for any advice as somebody will know

I assume you're with BT and what you were offered was 'fusion'. I would google BT Fusion and them you should find out everything you need

No I am with talktalk and the chap said this is available on all broadband direct from the internet hub

Sky have a version of that where you can select a number of different on demand things to watch Via an Internet connection

I think he's telling you that you have a smart TV. Connect your TV to the internet to stream movies and the like straight from the internet.

You may have to buy a wireless receiver for your tellybox - depending on what make of TV you have. That, or an ethernet cable.

Smart TV. I watch iPlayer on mine in perfect hd. I use a plug system to take the broadband from the router in the spare room to the TV in the lounge. Not a cheap option but the quality is perfect and no buffering what do ever. Also plug my sky box in to them for on demand

Your smart TV will need a an attachment to receive the wireless internet stream. They are known as "Dongles" and cost anywhere between £20 to £ 60 depending on yout TV make. If your router is in the same room as the TV then cheaper to connect with an ethernet cable. If not hen consider the home plug solution where you use the house electricity circuit to send the data.

You connect a lead from your router to the host 'plug' in which room it may be. The plug then takes the broadband signal through the sockets in your house. You then plug the secondary plug say behind your tv and connect the two via another lead. This gives you a super strong signal. Mine is 200mbps but you can get slower (cheaper options). This is the best way of doing it because (depending on your broadband signal) there is no lag. The picture on mine in hd is amazing to be honest.

Yes you can do it wirelessly but it's not as stable a signal and considering the amount of data you will be using it will buffer a lot. My neighbour is the petfect example. He spent 50 odd quid on a dongle it's useless. I spent 80 quid on the plugs. Petfect

So the first priority is a smart TV. Ours isnt but it is getting dodgy and keeps freezing so may be near time to buy a new one, possibly in January sales.

Yep you'll need one of those. They are pretty cheap now. I bought one for the bedroom Panasonic 42 inch led for about £450. Head to a comet if you can find one open and you'll get a bargain. It really is awesome especially if liked you watch a lot of catch up.

There are new apps coming all the time but iPlayer is very good already. If you use Skype you can do this from the TV now as well but you will need to get one with either a camera built in or one that can accept s camera attachment.
