Gave it a short whirl for a while a couple of years ago before I met my (now) fiancee. It was all right, no better - no harm done, didn't produce either a shagfest, or too many psychos/excruciating silences on dates.

Being reasonably old-fashioned in these matters I do sort of expect to pay on a first date - and since the nature of the beast can be a series of first dates, mainly meals in this case with different people until you click with someone, I was almost bankrupting myself.

Saw about four or five women, only one I liked sober. However, through her I did discover a really good jazz bar somewhere near Oxford Circus.

Lots of freaks on there to be found and laughed at - it's pretty good entertainment. I've never used it for the dating side, honest guv.

A couple of years back and I thought I’d check out aol chat rooms, you know, just to see what the fuss was about, anyway, after a bit I got an instant message from a woman from witting ham near Bristol. After a while of not showing any interest I thought I’d go with the flow and see where this leads to. I didn’t have much else to do on a Sunday evening so thought sod it, I’ll have a chat.

After a while I found her an ok person, we exchanged different topics and seemed to like one an others interests. Maybe that’s just her making out she’s interested. Anyway, to cut a long story short, she arranged to book a room in my local hotel for the Saturday, I was shocked, never met her let alone chat on the phone, I thought she was rushing things, We exchanged phone numbers and had a chat, she sounded f***ing sexy, she even sent a picture via e-mail, believe you me, pictures can be deceiving.

We met at the hotel and she was rough. I didn’t care as I only live a mile away in West Sussex. We went out, dined and had a chat, she only wanted sex, f*** that, I stayed the night and got home and banged one out.

Internet dating sounds great and the woman look ok but like I’ve said, pictures can be deceiving. Most blokes would say, f*** it, a hole is a goal, I suppose it depends on what takes your fancy really.

That was the first and last time I’d ever do that. Talk about men chasing the woman, more the versa visa.

Am absolutely amazed how many NSCers have emailed and PMed me this week to say similar things that they met their partner or spouse via internet dating. And almost all had positive experiences - some marriage!

I honestly thought it was a geek thing (but of course we are all geeks to be on NSC in the first place!!!)
