A good win for the boys last night with a few average performances but on the whole it was a decent showing.

Got back home to Worthing at 6:20am and grabbed 5 and a half hours sleep and got up in time to watch Sky's highlights of the game. I saw a very blurred shot of my flag when Defoe scored and I spotted myself on TV celebrating at the end of the game. No shots of my flag in the second half as it was taken down by one kind England fan who went round collecting up all the flags in that area after it became a 'no man's land' between the 2 sets of fans.

4 points from the first 2 games is not a bad return.

Albion & England forever.

No, but we were too close for my liking. Our end was divided into 3 sections and previous experience from these sorts of games saw to it that we took up position in the middle section. The section to our left was fairly empty apart from our 'likely lads' occupying that area.

Watching the ground fill up I spotted some of the Polish bone-heads further round the the other side and decided to keep my eye on them. Both sets of fans were close to each other albeit separated by a permanent fence and the riot police were on their side of it. Things were ok before the game with some Poles even coming over and having photo's taken with us.

Just before kick-off though, one of our fans somehow managed to snatch a Polish scarf from through the fence. This upet their lot and various insults and goading rumbled on throughout the first half. We scored and naturally the lads nearest the Poles to our left rubbed this fact in and things became heated. Then I saw a rare sight as the riot police on their side actually started taking a couple of polish fans out of the ground. Normally we are the targets when we go abroad. Glancing around I saw the Polish bone-heads from earlier making their way around the ground and towards the fence between the fans. I knew then things weren't going to improve too quickly.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw something land not too far from us and it became obvious they were throwing missiles. More stuff came over and we then moved off to the right to put us further out of range. As we were moving to get out of the way there were the usual few going the other way to join in.

During half time I spoke to a mate who had told me it had gone-off outside the ground before the game but details were sketchy as he was half-cut.

They scored early in the second half and it all went up another notch as the inevitable ripping up of plastic seats and throwing them started. I cannot say 100% for certain but I am sure they threw the first seat although that does not excuse our lot from throwing them back!! With the chairs going backwards and forwards the police by the fence in their end did nothing to stop it but riot police were amassing on the track infront of the stands. This lead to more England fans leaving that particular area as foreign police are not the most tolerant of us.

Then the second surprise of the evening followed as the police entered our end but did not go about clubbing senseless any English person they could get their hands on. They simply moved every England fan out of that section of the away end and created a 'no mans' land'. An amazing display of common sense.

This pretty much ended hostilies during the game and our victory put us in good spirits but this did not stop them keeping us locked in the ground for ages afterwards. When we were trying to leave from the back of the stand the riot police had formed up so that we could only get out in a single file. People seem to think this was done so they could look at faces to see if they could identify them from the CCTV footage. We eventually made it out and onto the coaches for the airport.

Oh yeah, we won 2-1.

Albion & England forever.
