Daily Telegraph with his tin hat on singing from the nuclear bunker he's been living in since the 1950s. I mean really, who gives a flying flamingo ?
Old people.
Wonder what it is that makes sneery Englishmen despise their national anthem when most of the rest of the world is proud to stand for theirs.

A bit pathetic, really.
See?

The only pathetic people are those who sing an out of date dirge of a song paying homage to an individual born into privilege and untold wealth. Why don't you grow up and let people express their views as they see fit.

Did Sven used to sing our anthem? Or Capello? Genuinely can't recall.

In any case, Carsley's Irish as far as football goes. I don't think we should demand foreigners sing our anthem, that's just pig-headed chauvinism.

Maybe they like England more than they like God and the King?

Personally, I think it's more pathetic to kowtow to some unelected bloke that by accident of birth inherited land and riches beyond belief and who apparently rules over us.

As for the anthem itself, it's not exactly inspiring is it?

Once the UK becomes a republic and there's a more uplifting anthem, you might see a more positive response.

I imagine the words of many anthems, in the cold light of day, are pretty cringeworthy. Just other nations seem less precious about them and just sing out of pride in their country anyway.

The Marseillaise is the call to arms for battle and revolution. The Star Spangled Banner is an ode to American stoicism when faced by the British Army. Both speak to soldiers and volunteers and the nation state. Our anthem is an anachronism and talks to hereditary position, establishment and unimaginable privilege. I love my country but hate the f***ing anthem!

Sycophants enjoy a dirge.
