I love maps and always have. But I think that’s an example of a map being a bad medium to convey information. Too messy. The message gets lost. If it was tabulated you could add columns for current population and note the percentage changes. A better use of the map might be to have colour gradation to illustrate different rates of population growth across the continent. The darker the red the higher the population growth, say.

The football pitches one is a much better example of where a map gets info across effectively.
