As is often the case in press articles, the best part is to be found deep in the article, down near the bottom:

'This belief, hunger and aggressive style of football in the backdrop of a no-pressure environment to achieve, actually makes their run-in something to look at in a positive view. It is a chance to take points off your rivals in a six-point environment.'

Our 'difficult' run-in isn't something to be afraid of. It's an opportunity.

What is Goldstein on about? If Brighton or Brentford qualified for the CL, that would be because, over a season, they were better than the big name teams that he seems to want permanently involved. It follows that they would have a better chance against whoever they drew. He's assuming that a football team's name makes them entertaining. Presumably he hasn't seen any Tottenham games this season.

Some people who make their living around football might want to consider that a lot of us have had no interest in watching Champions League football for years exactly because it features endless games between the same bunch of teams. I loved watching European Cup games as a kid, but to steal @Lenny Rider's old line, if Chelsea v Real Madrid was being played in my back garden, I'd draw the curtains.

So true. The European Cup in the 70s and 80s was brilliant. I have only watched a handful of ‘Champions League’ games since the sad demise of that competition. Goldstein also needs to realise that the vast majority of match going football fans support clubs that are never in the Champions League so opening it up to a few new faces might actually be a good idea. Having said all that he does say this stuff to get a debate going.

Yep. I loved Leeds's CL run at the turn of the century for precisely this reason, a new team sticking it to the established names

Hmmm didn't stick around long when he was on loan with us though, only played about half a dozen games, and couldn't wait to rush off and join Derby.
You can't blame him at that time.

Darren Bent & Derby were far bigger than Brighton were then.

He was a big and novel signing for us at the time.
