Interesting Barca warm up analysis

It would be interesting if it showed all of the warm up rather than just a couple of minutes of players doing what they like. How do they warm up physically for example, do they do those little sprints like we do? Do they have a bit of shooting practice like we do? Basically this is just some bloke attaching meaning to a short period of players kicking a ball around and inventing words that make him sound stupid, MAXIMALLY!

What a load of bollocks. He's making it sound like other clubs don't do a pre match warm up properly. Film any warm up and you would probably see very similar things going on except that Barca have better players so it looks better.

He gets paid for that? And I was concerned that I didnt structure our junior side's warm up enough but really we were just doing it the Barca way! I feel better now.

Interesting is a strong word. Who the hell is Tom Bates anyway? Midfielders Xavi, Inesita and ... Abidal? Messi doing his own thing ... with other players in much the same way our defence do their warm up knocking it long and tacking a touch.

Its rubbish its what every team does following the running and stretching from Champions league to Sunday league.

Edit: had a look at his website Tom Bates Coaching - Peak Performance Coaching and well

the only interesting thing is how the three triangles merge together but the players stay focused on their group. (not sure if this is mentioned, watched silently.)

All a physical warm up needs to do is warm the body up (usually via jogging in football) then stretch the muscles (although there is some argument if stretching muscles is always appropriate as the body cools down when doing it).

In terms of football skills, I guess they just do whatever they do in the game.

Active, ballistic stretching definitely.

I only did a year OU course so am not an expert but I personally feel muscle stretching is necessary in football as it potentially involves lot's of sudden movements. On the other hand if you are going for a jog round the bloke it might just be worth having a brisk walk beforehand.

This doesn't take into account any existing injuries of course.
