Well, sadly it lost its sparkle years ago. For example the subject of this thread, Sunderland, view Prem survival more important than cup success according to today's press. 21st in a league trumps a trophy; how on earth did English football end up like this?

It is the 3rd time this season they have played Southampton, and their supporters have a cup final to pay for. How many would we get in the same position?

Poyet apparently indicated that he would rather lose, than draw and have the need for a replay. Shocking!

We seem to have a sensible approach to pricing in the fa cup this season.

To be fair though, Sunderland are a much bigger club than us. I would have expected more but perhaps the pricing is wrong.

If it was about money then we'd field our strongest team on Monday which we won't so it's not all about money.

But why do we field a weaker side? Because the rewards for success elsewhere are greater? So it is about money IMHO.

Fair enough, but the cup has clearly lost it's magic.

Must be quite demoralising for players to give their all, realising that hardly anyone actually cares

A cup run brings in a couple of mill if you win the FA Cup , a promotion run brings in £120M if you go up.
