Try lemon squeezed into water on an empty stomach,leave for 20 minutes before eating,brush your teeth first though and rinse with cold water straight after drinking the lemon water.

Is this a cure for insomnia or an aid for staying up all day with family Christmas shenanigans? :)

The latter initially,but taken long enough the acid will clear the toxins and funnily when the lemon acid hits the stomach it turns alkaline,thus can help with insomnia too...

Carefull of the teeth.. long term use.

Suffered with insomnia ever since I joined the armed forces, now 26 years later still lucky to get 2-3 hours sleep. Have tried going to the gym, going for long walks, watching tv, reading a book, listening to music. Never tried sleeping pills and never will. Would much rather have 2-3 hours sleep.

I'm a chronic insomniac. I just can't stop my brain from thinking - stupid stuff, nothing stressful.

I have a few ways I try to deal with it:
1. Stay away from the Internet/smart phones etc for at least 3 hours before bed. Helps your mind settle and keeps you away from Blue light that keeps you awake.
2. Mediation before bed. Clear the mind and then go straight to be after.
3. Clear your mind as you get into bed. Don't start thinking about anything or it won't stop.
4. If the above isn't working, try some sleep hypnosis. There's loads of apps. Glenn Harrold is pretty good.
5. Listen to a podcast or LBC etc and have that on a sleep timer. The background noise helps me to stop thinking!
6. If I still can't get to sleep, I'll give up. Get up and accept it, try not to stress about it. Turn on the TV and lie on the sofa. You may end up drifting off.

Been suffering for a good while now. Only getting 2-3 hours sleep a night if that. Aside from pills and booze anyone got some advice from personal experience. Starting to get a bit zombified.

for anyone who is suffering, i would def suggest a detox. if you are on fbk check out a great guy chris pickard at body in balance. lots of tips for insomnia and how to break the cycle... but more to it than just trying to kip... all about what is going on inside the body. he knows his onions.... recommend!!!

I cany understand why people find it hard to sleep,it's so easy I can do it with my eyes shut!

Seriously, I do feel for you as have had lots of issues with sleep, alcohol is awful as someone else said it will make you tired but only sleep for hour or so, reading is a good way to "go off" or sometimes watching TV on sofa and Mrs just leaves me there when I do as she knows I go to bed and won't sleep

I also use lemons [from the garden of course!], but I take it as hot honey & lemon before bedtime. If that doesn't work for you Melotonin, a natural product, really works. Used by airline staff to reset body clock. Available throughout Europe and most of the world except, I think, the UK.

Easy to say and pretty obvious but the more you worry about it the less likely you are to sleep. If you can't sleep get up and do something worthwhile.

Ive suffered since i was 14. Im now 30. Sadly there is no easy answer, for me eating healthy and excercise is the best answer. Short term advice id suggest trying a pitch black room take your tv out of the room And all Distractions. 100% stay away from your phone.

I was diagnosed as bipolar a few years ago so I was put on quetiapine along with mirtazapine (which I was already prescribed). Don't think I've ever had a really bad night's sleep but some are better than others due to stress although I usually get the full eight hours - 12 if it's a weekend or bank holiday.

Zopiclone doesn't do a lot for me as I'm already a good sleeper. Nice to have a w@nk or sex before bedtime. That's probably the best natural relaxant. Avoid caffeine after 6pm and booze only at weekends.

Apologies if already tried but this is first port of call. Keep it up for a month before trying something else.

Here's what I do.

Think of five England cricketers (or footballers ) starting with letter a. E.g. Anderson, atherton, allott etc. Then work your way through the alphabet.
You'll soon nod off.
If not, then yeah, bash one out
