Insider says he doesn't think it would be right to open talks with one player only at this stage of the season. Well if you want to show ambition then you bloody well get any players who are going to be pivotal to the future of the club to talk as early as possible. This is typical of us over the years as we are always to bloody nice and softly softly and then wonder why we miss out on players. Yet again the club will probably end up losing out because if someone else wants him they will be in there quickly and act before we even move. Wake up Albion football is a cut throat business.

We don't know what league we will be in, what budget we will have or who the manager will be. Seems fair enough to wait to me

Well I hope he isn't speaking for the club but I fear he might be, fecking unbelievable imo and all a bit Micky Mouse if true. There is nothing about being bloody nice here it's just plain incompetence not to try and tie players up even if their contracts might vary dependent on which division we are in. They don't have to be given the contract to sign at the moment but it may help their decision if they think the club might be keen to keep any player that we think may be worth a contract,

But, as we don't know who the manager is going to be I can understand it being a bit tricky but we let the last manager sign a load of players and then sacked him ( rightly imo but 2 months too late). We really are a shambles from top to bottom it seems.

If Whing is the only one coming out of this with credit, then it way offering him something now, rather than any of the others sends a message out to the players that have let the club down.

However, I do not expect Whing to stay if we go down. Whatever the retired publican says, Whing has been one of the few bright spots of the season and he is too good for Division 4 and should move on, if we go down.

He wants to stay here, he can't go anywhere else until June 30. He needs permission to go and talk to anyone else (permission the club may or may not give) while he's focussed on trying to avoid relegation with his employers. He is playing trying to earn another contract on the back of an as-yet unmade decision on the manager's future.

As long as he understands that, I'm sure we'll be fine in retaining his services.

I have said that I didnt expect him to be in the first team at Christmas simply because I thought that we would have outgrown him and brought in better players but alas that didnt happen. Nobody can question Whings effort and endeavour it is his defensive ability that I questioned, and still do when faced by an attacking fast winger a la Jason Puncheon who has scored both at Withdean and MK. Fair enough his goal at MK was from the opposite wing but in both matches he led Andy Whing a merry dance whenever he attacked him, as did a number of other left wingers over the season. Having said that I still believe that he will deservedly probably get player of the season, which really sums up our season.

Is the fact that only 12 of our squad being contracted beyond the end of the season affecting our performances? Slight parallels to the relegation season from The Championship?

Where nothing was done about contracts and the stands erupted when we played like we didn't give a shit against Stoke ( which we obviously didn't)

The way I see it is that it would be wrong for any club to give one out-of-contract player a new deal so close to the end of the season and leave others hanging on. It could potentially demotivate those out of contract at the end of the season, and could cause disharmony in any dressing room across the country. All players out of contract at the end of this season (30/06/09), were free to talk to other clubs from 1st January.

But opening talks is not the same is it?

I don't see why he would to stay but would love it if he did. I would make him captain too. In Whing and McNulty we have two brilliant full backs that have shone in this league.

If we offered Whing a contract NOW as a result of a string of top quality performances, maybe, just maybe it would make other players realize they are playing for their livelyhoods

Potentially demotivate!:ohmy::laugh:

I think you'll find that we past that stage many moons ago:cry:

Already been mentioned on here, but me and my mate were speaking to a Bristol Rovers scout on the train to Milton Keynes on Saturday (from Birmingham New Street, Bristol Rovers played at Tranmere on Sunday) who mentioned that Whing was out of contract at the end of the season, and that he would be watching the Albion play at Hereford on Tuesday night. Whether that to be to watch Whing or just analyse the way we play before our game against them in two weeks, who knows.

I would imagine the Bristol Rovers scout is watching us ahead of game there, but that won't stop him noting any players he thinks will improve his team.

Too many lazy overpaid black players in the squad? That is typical of you, why must you push your backhand, disgusting racist agenda on every thread? :censored::censored::censored:
