I tried to do the CIS return online. Suffice to say the website wasn't working properly.

Just completed my contractors return..what an arse.. thank god it's being replaced with a new version, although sounds like it's not working that well... :(

I know. I got fined 900 pound year because they said I had not sent in my annual CI36. I did of course send it in but why notify someone 9 months on that they had not received it.

I have wasted so muchtime recently getting up to spec on this new system and now all the verified subbies have gone from my list.

as I said before cnuts

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes the CIS. My biggest problem is trying to establish which subcontractor payments to include on the return. I work for a security company so most are not included.

I object to a public body that employs a man of Mr P Cannings ability being referred to as 'cnuts'.

Why should the taxman help this person out when he and his colleagues are being called such names.

Mind you it was probably Canning spilling a can of stronbow down the back of a computer that led to the incident in the first place.

did you appeal as the majority had theirs reduced to £100 on appeal straightaway as it was partly HMR&C's fault

I am reliably informed that HMRC is in such a mess at the moment that you should appeal against any pens.

The powers that be are cutting numbers, especially in the South and so most of the processing is going to Scotland where inexperinced staff are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work put on them.

Add to that the fact that even basic clerical rules are not being followed it means that even if you hand something into a tax office, no note is made of the fact and your document is sent to Scotlad where it may, or may not appear and be worked some weeks/months later.

So many things are going into a black hole. In the old days staff could be pretty confident in knowing if you'd put something in or not as notes were recorded at every stage. That just doesn't happen now.

I've been fined £100 for late filing of my tax return for every one of the last seven years. None of them were filed late and. on appeal, the fines were waived.

But why go through the process in the first place? Do they just fine everybody and hope that some people can't be arsed to appeal?

Thank god I don't run a company any more, I don't think I could stand dealing with the revenue twice a year.
