The article is suggesting that Spurs have lots of injuries because of the intensive playing style. Conversely, Fulham and Forest have fewer because they play with less intensity. That, and a new manager, might explain our huge numbers.

I wonder how much of it is the fault of the manager/the style of play.

I was listening to a podcast and heard that Liverpool very seriously considered the injury records of the managers they were looking at over the summer. Slot apparently had over 90% player availability over his whole stint at Feyenoord and look at how low Liverpool are on that list.

We had similar problems last season so it could be an issue with the conditioning of the players and/or the medical department.

Would be interesting to see St Pauli's injury record from last season...

Saw this yesterday - I guess it does correlate with what you are saying in Spurs and Forests two extremes.

They are huge numbers. Near 25% above the next worst. And if the methodology was the same as the one I saw before, the days for Solly's injury before he came back weren't counted.

And I don't think Hurzeler has blamed the injuries once for a bad result. Compare that the the repeated bleating of the Aussie Spurs bloke

De Zerbi's training sessions were relatively low intensity, there was more of a focus on tactics and shape etc.

It was certainly suggested to me that a reason for our injuries last season may have been the nature of training didn't adequately prepare the squad for the demands of a full Premier League (plus cups) season.

I'm told that Hurzeler's sessions are more intensive, which may explain our injuries this season as players go through a period of adaptation. That's just a guess on my part however.

I have no idea where to find that, but the following two charts are on the Instagram of our head of medical Doctor Florian Pfab. His team at the time was Eintracht Frankfurt (Jonas Scheuermann our assistant manager was assistant manager at Augsburg).

Two other conclusions i'm drawing from this.

Given this injury record, our manager has done very well to navigate us to mid table with an outside shot of europe.

The club showed good foresight to run a larger squad from the start of the season. Despite this shocking catalogue of injuries, we've not had to play the u23s. The bench on most games has had at worst 6 or 7 senior players on it

I wonder if Pfab will put this seasons injury stats on his insta? I'll guess not. Maybe he would argue he hasn't had time to put his methods in. Hmmm

The factor which I think gets ignored in this, as we all seek the magic answer to this is luck. That's what I think the single biggest factor here is, the slings and arrows. Sometimes you go on a run in football where everything goes right, sometimes everything goes wrong. I think there maybe some playing style issues. But I also think we've mostly just been unlucky

Last season the squad was probably too small. The net effect was that as injuries became a factor, other players were asked to play more than expected and possibly more than was good for them.
This season the squad is larger and the more cautious approach to bringing players back from injury has to be a contributory factor to the games missed statistics.

It is funny that we seem to have had lots of muscle injuries, something which Pfab was highlighted as having the fewest of in the Bundesliga. He joined Frankfurt in Summer 2019, so he had a whole season before the ones that produced those lovely charts of fewest injuries - hopefully bodes well for next season.

I'm miles away from my field of expertise I admit, but is there loads you can do to prevent muscle injuries? Every club is going to have fully qualified physios and will take medical advice or have full time staff. I'm not convinced there is some guru who we can hire (or have hired) who can have much effect, over and above the effect that just having competent medical staff and a manager who listens to them will give you. Ultimately a manager is going to require the players to sprint, turn, shoot, tackle etc all of which carry risk of injury

…….. and Milner and March. Can’t put them down to Fab and intensity.
