First up are Kip Berman and Peggy Wang from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

Then it's Pete Green who releases solo stuff and sings with The Sweet Nothings, and Marianthi, one of the Indietracks organisers who co-runs Atomic Beat Records and is involved with a million other great things.

Then it's Ian, another one of the Indietracks organisers and guitarist in the now defunct Pocketbooks. Currently stroking his strings in The Understudies and ElectrophonVintage, and doubtless other places too.

Then you've got The Orchids looking a wee bit older than their Sarah days.

Chap with the shades is Sean who runs Fortuna Pop, probably the best known label for releasing this kind of stuff, and who plays in Airport Girl (if they ever play again).

Oh... and then there's some credits telling you who they all are!

Yeah, I'm not too shabby at this type of thing, just a shame I'm pretty hopeless at anything remotely useful.

On that positive note, I'm off to Paddington for an ICSA exam *sigh*

First up are Kip Berman and Peggy Wang from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

Shared a hotel with them at a festival in Belgium a couple of years ago. It was left to me to tell them (and various members of Cults) in the hotel bar that they were unlikely to be playing as the tent stage they were due to appear on had just been blown away in the storm from hell by hurricane force winds.

Spent breakfast the next morning swapping war stories with several members of The Go! Team (but not Ninja), who were all amused that Ninja had spent the storm hiding under a table going "I'm not comgin out! I'm not coming out!"...

Hope you're better than our lot - they know not a lot about a wide range of activities, but are very good at passing the buck, getting things wrong, not keeping up with the timetable and complaining about not being involved or being invited to meetings. I don't really mind people not caring or doing their job that well unless it's me who has to take the blame or pick up the pieces.

Now, did someone mention the Pooh Sticks and The Flatmates? I could be in heaven, but I'm stuck in an office. and there's someone drilling outside the window. I have a lovely view of The Gherkin though. Is it Christmas yet?

I can't see the video at work (blocked), but it also sounds remarkably like us!

I was in an indie band once, says Mr. 50 year old drummer, IT bloke, and Dad (who spent most of the Leicester game in the Family Stand (rather than the usual North) trying to get his 5 year old boy to stop kicking the back of the seat in front, and bundling with his older sister).

The C86 scene's a funny one these days, because it's a mixture of old blokes who were there first time round, and kids - sometimes their kids. A lot more girls involved in the bands too (and running the clubs), which has got to be a good thing. It was pretty scruffy blokey back in 1986, but I digress...

Actually it's a vain attempt to start him supporting the right team. He's not really ready, but he does like the crowd and runs around the house shouting "Allllllbi-onnnn Allllbi-on" so it's not all bad.

Yes, and not much in the middle (ie very few 30 somethings), which is a bit odd because there was always a scene in the 90s and 00s, although perhaps not as active as now. Certainly there are more bands reforming now than ever before. Wonder if it's a temporary phase or whether the quality of that period of music is finally getting its due?
