Not going but I'm jealous, looks a great line-up. Saw Camera Obscura a few weeks back and they were superb - new album is arguably their best yet. Kid Canaveral are an excellent live act these days (and pals of mine). And the Lovely Eggs are bonkers but brilliant.

Yes, there is a massive selection of ales and ciders, with cans of lager and other fizzy stuff too.

The small Church stage has produced some brilliant performances over the years.

The Sock Puppets captured a lot of hearts two years ago:



And thrashy-poppers Joanna Gruesome tore it up last year (they're partially Brighton based and play in town quite often - well worth checking out).

I think it was you who gave a Joanna Gruesome tip a while back (along with Playlounge?) I saw them at Green Door earlier in the year and can report back they are very impressive.

It was indeed me. I'm always chuntering on, uninvited, about bands I love.

It's amazing how many exciting new bands are based in Brighton at the moment; as well as Jo Gru, you've got King of Cats (who perform as an acoustic alt. soloist sometimes, or as a noisy lo-fi emo band at other times. The 'America' album which is downloadable from bandcamp is one of my favourite finds of the year); Tyrannosaurus Dead - new 12" mini-LP is a blast; Ides - the female singer from Jo Gru has her own solo project and is moving to town soon and will doubtless play some of her fantstic shows soon...

There are plenty more too, maybe there should be an "Exciting Current Brighton Bands" thread.

I'll second Ides (didn't realise that it was a Jo Gru side project though.) Saw Tyrannosaurus Dead at a Sea Monsters show and remember liking them but haven't caught up with them since. There's plenty of smaller Brighton bands I've been keen on for a while. We have a pretty fertile scene going on at the moment;

Cold Pumas/ Negative Pegasus/ Traams/ Fat Bicth/ Birjwin Jersey/Tigerclub/Drum Eyes/Abi Wade/AK-DK/Kins/Physics House Band

I'm sure I've forgotten a few as well.

The newly reformed Flatmates are playing with the Wedding Present on Bank Holiday weekend, the Sunday I think. I was a 15 year old penpal with the Field Mice for a while. And Pristine Christine was my favourite track of all time for long lonnnng time.

Inspired by this, I had my own little C86 party in the kitchen (where else would you have such a thing) while the family were out, and I was cooking dinner, picking random tracks via MusicTube.

What a fantastic couple of tracks 'Delilah Sands' and 'Teenage' are. I hadn't listened to them in ages. Brilliant stuff. And TJB's 'Sunday to Saturday'. Magnificent.

They were without doubt the very worst band I saw last year. Utterly charmless and without an original idea between them, amply illustrated by their woeful version of Bowie’s “Boys Keep Swinging” as their second song.
They were also rude and ungracious, and once they had played, they hung around at the front of the stage getting progressively more pissed and shouting their conversations over the other bands playing.

Oh yes, Hobbes Fanclub are effin' brilliant. I think 'Outside Myself' was my most played song in 2011. Frontman Leon is a massive Bradford City fan and a lovely bloke too.
