Tea. India 217/8. Still trail by 183.

Need to dismiss the last 2 quickly, and then put some quick runs on the board, to allow enough time to bowl them out again on, hopefully, a wearing pitch. This would be a very good result for a scratch team, and would pose a lot of problems in terms of selection for the summer.

Geriant Jones has taken 5 catches, and the commentators have said that some of them have been Very Good.

Prior has also dropped simple catches at least twice that I can think of (includind a dolly at gully today off Dravid), so I don't think there's any chance of Prior replacing Jones yet. However, Reid is still a good choice IMO.

How many times have we needed to dismiss that last two wickets, and let them off the hook?? Seems to be an English habit.

I would like to see Prior replace Jones, but Fletch is a bit stuck in his ways.

Ideally, Read should play as a world class wickey can save you runs and take you wickets.

Looking ahead to the summar and beyond, if Panesar replaces Giles in the team our tail will have got longer. Therefore, it is even more important for our keeper to regularly score runs.

Jones now has Ashes experience that will be important in Australia. We really need him to work on his shot selection and ability to grind out innings. I'm not convinced Read will score more than Jones, or that Prior will keep any better. Like Russell and Knott before him I'd expect Jones' batting to improve with age.

In addition, we need to find out what's up with Vaughan. If the team is going to lose experience in other areas the keeper debate might get shelved for the time being.

As for the Dhoni run-out, the 3rd umpire got it spot on. The Indian pundit in the Sky commentary box pissed me off with his biased view about how the bails weren't flying in the air until the bat was over the line - of course they weren't but they don't have to be.

A simple grasp of physics would tell you the force of the ball impacting on the stump would dislodge the bail in a millisecond, and it only has to lose contact with the stump to be classed as dislodged.

Handy partnership of 31 so far.

....and very true Pavillionaire. Although we have some decent batting, our tail is a lot longer than the likes of Australia and South Africa.

Matty did not exactly cover himself in glory by missing that catch at gully.

May be longer but it does not wag as often as the likes of Oz and SA..does it?

It is vewy ware. The occasional wag. We have never wagged much in the past. It is a shame as if we did wag then we would win more matches. Wouldn't we?

Anything over 100 is a handy lead with them batting last. We should be able to get up to a 350 lead by the end of tomorrow.

279 all out. Good effort from the bowlers, particularly Anderson who finished with 4-40. No wickets down before the end of play and we;re in a very strong position.

Just over 20 overs of play today. We need a steady start .. the Indian seamers will be well up for it.

121 runs lead ,,,hopefully we can declare this time tomorrow setting them a target over 400.

Nothing to lose lets take a risk or two and go for it.

Excellent news. It should have been wrapped up earlier, but fantastic effort.

Now avoid a collapse and we can square the series.
seconded.... great effort from our boys - forcing the win will require another 2 days of quality play but we can do it...
