Why would these guys want to manage there? Maybe the significantly superior quality of life (BA is significantly more stylish, family friendly and "big time" than the South Coast), the attraction of their families...

Do you mind switching off the lights and closing the door on your way out?!

Ta dah-you wont be missed!

OK; that's a very complacent attitude. You need to understand the Argentinian (which is the same as the Uruguayan!) mentality. If these guys think that we regard their departure as inevitable, then they will go very very quickly. That's just how it is.

And I would have thought stating the Argentinian mentality is the same as the Uruguayan mentality is a gross over-simplification. They are entirely different countries and entirely different people (albeit both were part of the Spanish Empire). The only thing thing they actually agree on is Argentina's ownership of the Falkland Islands and rocky diplomatic relations with the UK!!

As I said ...Ramón DÃ*az Resigns At Independiente

Don't underestimate this.

Regardless of the Diaz appointment (he won't last more than a few months, by the way), the fact is that this was a massive story in BA.

Gus and Mauricio are on the radar there big time! And that is very very significant.

What we need to recognise is that our view of the world and world football isn't one that "normal" people from oversees share.

Why would these guys want to manage there? Maybe the significantly superior quality of life (BA is significantly more stylish, family friendly and "big time" than the South Coast), the attraction of their families, and the lure of managing some of the biggest clubs in the world (not just the Championship or even England).

So, it seems as if the Independiente job is taken (albeit temporarily). But, this rumour is for real. Football people in BA are "all over" our 2 main guys.

Just a final thought - Almeyda's position at River isn't exactely secure. They need promotion at the 1st attempt. Already their season is stuttering.

River Plate or Brighton???

You need to take this seriously.

don't mean to piss on... well actually I do. they have already appointed a new coach.

Ramon Diaz named new coach of Independiente - Soccer - SI.com

And now he's resigned. But "Americo Gallego is favourite to take over".

Fourth defeat in a row ends Diaz's stay at Independiente

Sun, 04 Mar 04:06:00 2012

Ramon Diaz resigned as Independiente coach after a fourth consecutive defeat, a 3-1 loss at home to Argentinos Juniors in the Argentine Clausura championship on Saturday.

"We did all we could, this is a moment when the fans have to understand that the coach wants to get results but if they don't come he can't carry on," Diaz, who has won league titles as a coach with River Plate and San Lorenzo, told reporters.

'Red Devils' fans were baying for Diaz's head at the end of the match with their team bottom of the standings having scored just one goal and conceded seven after four matches.

"I'm the only one to blame. The club gave us everything (we needed)," said former Argentina striker Diaz, who had been in charge since the seventh round of the Apertura championship.

It did not help Independiente that goalkeeper Hilario Navarro let a head-high shot from striker Fabian Bordagaray slip from his grasp over his head and into the net to leave his team two goals behind after a quarter of an hour.

Argentinos, whose coach Nestor Gorosito resigned from his hospital bed early in the week after a car crash, notched their first win under his staff before Leonardo Astrada takes over on Monday. They had previously drawn one match and lost two.

Independiente's reserve team trainer Cristian Díaz will take temporary charge while the Red Devils look for a new coach. Americo Gallego is favourite to take over.

Gallego steered Independiente to the Apertura title in 2002 and had another spell in charge of the club from the Buenos Aires suburb of Avellaneda in 2009/10.

Gallego won't be going there; there's been a long standing disagreement over alledged money owed to him since 2002.

It's obvious Gus hasn't been happy in England this year. He wants to go "home" and will take Mauricio with him, Im sure. Independiente is a massive club. It all adds up, now more than ever.

If he brings them a title he will be bigger than God in Avellaneda. Independiente is an institution, tather than a mere football club. Trust me, he will be going there at some point soon.

Will this club allow him complete control regarding helping to set up a development squad, changing the entire infrastructure and culture of the club so it suits him down to a TEE?

Doubtful.

Yeah got to agree with you there. Guys is obviously so unhappy here. He was almost crying yesterday after describing his satisfaction at Vicente's two goals in our victory over Portsmouth.

Is it?

Real Zaragoza would also like Gus.

Me refiero a Gustavo Poyet. Si se le ofrece un proyecto serio, con años por delante, estilo Inglaterra, vendrá encantado.

For the first team,we need an icon of the fans, who also spent many glorious years here, has gained experience in English football as a player, coach and now manager. I mean Gustavo Poyet. If he is offered a serious project, with years ahead, like they do in England, he will love it.

With all due respect here, Gus wouldn't be in the slightest bit interested in moving over to Argentina right now or anytime in the near future.

Firstly, Gus is a family man who respects each of his family members' views. Diego is currently a successful young individual who is progressing very well within the ranks of his team and through the english international set-up as well. They have been very happy living in Kent and am very sure Mrs. Poyet will not be happy at all, at the prospect of moving for the sake of a team such as Independiente.

Which comes to my second point. Independiente are a team in disaster. Granted they have the money; stadium; fans but they lack ambition and stability. Gus is already enjoying making his own team and club at the Albion and insists he will not leave unless "the perfect job" comes knocking at his door. I am 99.9% certain that Independiente is not the perfect job for him.

Finally, he loves the club and has constantly paid tribute to TB's faith in placing an "inexperienced", yet young and full of potential, manager. Gus is man of honour and is definitely not one to just jump ship to the other side of the lake that is the Atlantic Ocean.

Brighton & Hove Albion - a team chasing for play-offs. With a home. More financially secure than it ever has been. A highly ambitious chairman with a fantastic rate of cooperation and who are in the second-tier of english football - a league that is vastly more recognised around the globe than many top tier leagues.
River Plate - a team on the down. Granted their prestigious history and integrity, they are a team struggling with fans who in denial that there beloved club are in a crisis and no longer the team they once were.
Independiente - think many of us have viewed our opinion about this too.

Exactely. The discord that is growing between him and the owner is almost a chasm now. No doubt that Vicente is part of the "problem". I expect him to go with Gus and Mauricio. What Independiente are after is a goal scorer, they would idolise him and would pay him handsomely.

The difference is that all of these guys have a global football view. Sorry, but in global terms trying to compare Indepentiente with a Championship side is laughable. Add that to Gus's frame of mind at the moment and this all adds up.

Its hardly jumping ship, he would be going home.

The Premiership is a very big step up from the Championship and promotion would tell us how much money TB really has to risk with the club.
