My problem isn't with the story but the missed opportunity of headline potential. Never mind "Early customers find Boots shut", I'd have gone for something like:

"HAYWARDS HEATH DRUGS SHAME - Missing dealer throws manor into chaos!"

Police have released this image of the shocking scenes that confronted them in Hassocks this morning.

Seems that the crisis has spread to Surrey. Delivery driver unable to get the doors of the Boots lorry open outside the Cranleigh store earlier today; pharmacist was in attendance (univ colleague of my wife) but the store remained open throughout

I'm going back into Cranleigh later and will report back with any updates - ie Meridian reporters, Surrey Advertiser/W Sx County Times photographers etc

Now, I do not want to cast aspersions on the diligence of the middy reporter, but I will.

If they had returned to the store between 1.30-2.30 they would probably have seen the usual sign on the medicine counter that says nothing can be sold from there as the pharmacist is at lunch.

I am hoping that a suitably in depth investigation can explain why the whole store did not have to close during this period.

Having lived the first 30 years of my life in Brighton & Hove I couldn't believe that you could not get medicine from boots between 1.30-2.30 in Haywards Heath.

Years later, I have learnt to accept the shorter life expectancy for those of us that have a lunch break at the same time as the pharmacist.

Perhaps young Murdoch has quit to take up a position there.

I have to go to Haywards Heath tomorrow - for the second time in my life, I believe - do you think it's safe ? What if I get a headache and there's no pharmacist available.

It's safe Tricky. There are a network of us NSCers here to look out for you.
