One word for Chris Hughton....why? Tiredness? Loss of form? He hasn't shown either so why leave him out again? We need his strength and presence in the middle of the park. Despite our win, we looked a weaker team against Derby without him ... in my view, of course. What do others' think?

Were you at Bolton, perchance? I was, and whilst he can hardly be said to have had a shocker, there were signs that day that he was struggling a bit.

I'll trust the manager on this one, and assume that he's going on what he sees in games and on the training field. Rather rest Ince for a couple and have him raring to go for the remainder than push him to his physical limits and have him pick up the sort of niggling injury that is more common when fatigue sets in.

I agree. I was at Bolton and thought he looked tired. I remember having the conversation on the way home saying I think he needs a rest, esp now we have Stephens back and Kayal.

He has looked a bit tired to me the last couple of home games, i would give him another night off

If he's tired at his age, I suggest he takes up darts or something similar.
Football is obviously too strenuous for him.

He gives the ball away cheaply & naively several times a game & against the better teams we'll be punished. When he manages to eradicate this from his game & become as good in the air as his physique would suggest he'll be a very, very good player. He's still young, we build him up far too much on here

Now this is much closer to the truth.

I think the more games the better for Rohan Ince for experience.

PS: I thought it was mistake to leave him out against a young Derby side and surrender the midfield and make Derby look better than they actually were. It could have e been embarrassing.

An article of pure Argus speculation, with the only a quote from post Derby (a week ago) as evidence that Ince might miss out at Reading, nothing to see here, again.

This. It's just The Argus generating non-stories. Let's just wait and see what the squad and starting line-up is shall we, and then we can perhaps comment. I echo those comments on this thread that indicate that CH might know something that we don't, and that his selections have worked thus far. I'd go further than that when commenting on his substitutions, which have been highly astute, showing an advanced understanding of: our squad; the opposition; and how the particular game is progressing.

Seems a pretty speculative article. No concerns from me - CH seems to know what he's doing, so happy for him to carry on doing what he's paid to do.

I do find hard to grasp this idea of fit young men being too tired to play football twice a week, but hey ho, what do I know?

I really dislike comments like that (not picking on this one particularly but in general). A professional football is an athlete expected to be at the top of their game week after week, obviously they will get tired.

We have 5 games in 15 days in April.

Quite why any nimrod is questioning squad rotation after spending all this money in creating a squad, beggars belief.

To question careful handling of one of the squads youngest players and potentially biggest asset, is both mind numbing and jaw dropping.

Competition for Places

It was good to get Holla involved, he hadn't even made the match day squad since the arrival of Kayal.

Holla was unlucky to be dropped in the first place.

Even with competition for places, the spine of the side is usually retained.

This. Their bodies don't care how much they get paid either. Whilst I'm sure an athletic player like Ince is capable of playing 7-8 games in a month; he's not likely to be able to do so to his full abilities without a rest.

I think his form had dropped off by the Bolton game. He was ok, but not up to the standards we know he's capable of.

Same here.

I think it's sometimes forgotten that when a player is rested it's not necessarily because they're too tired to play (I doubt that's ever actually the case in all honesty) but that they're not quite at what's considered their 'peak' level instead.

Now, against you, me or the Dog and Duck first team that's not likely to make a blind bit of difference as the gulf in quality is going to be vast, however, against another team of fully fit athletes that marginal difference could be the cause of a narrow loss. It may only be a slim chance that that will be the case, but the job of any manager is to mitigate those risks as and where he sees them.

Hughton seems to be getting more right than wrong so much as I'd like to see Ince in the team I won't be moaning if he's not.

I would like to see Holla, Kayal and Ince working the midfield together. That said Calde's experience of working with Bruno probably puts him ahead of him at this moment in time. We have Stephens as well in the mix.

Players are always one game from an injury as well, so another will always get a chance.

I think Stephens could be the midfielder who will be first name on the team sheet once he gains full fitness, Classy player imo,
