With cases rising it would seem likely that grounds won't be opening in any significant way imminently, or in the near future, i.e. October (I just read something saying 1st October was "expected" https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/coronavirus-lockdown-rules-four-nations-uk ).

Might not be until next year before we get to go back.

I've been saying this about music and gigs all year . . . . whats happening was inevitable and it will get worse before it gets better again.

Sadly

My mate is a steward at Anfield. He was interested in our Chelsea game from a safety standpoint. Your number for further games at the Amex ties in with the number they were given for first matches back at Liverpool, being 12,500 fans in a 54000 stadium. That is an identical ratio to ours at 7,500. I guess there is a PL rule regarding seats to fans allowed.

Thing is I would suspect that the ~7,000 number was based on the expectation/understanding a few weeks ago.

If the latest rise was expected and 7,000 based on this then I assume this would happen relatively soon, maybe in October.

However, I would guess that this is 'new' information (regardless of the nuances and how you interpret it, the Government/Sage is taking it seriously) and will affect timing and numbers etc.

I agree. Personally I don't believe we'll be back in grounds until well after Christmas if at all this year.

I'm going to take a punt at mid-November, based on the recent rise being curbed and further improvements in treatment/good news on upcoming vaccines.

That was supposed to be the case for the Chelsea game and from my observations, most people did! We took the "no booze beyond here" lines heading towards the station as the mask/de-mask point.

Interesting. I wonder if you arrived earlier/later than me? I arrived twenty minutes before kick-off and my son and I were instructed (as were others) to put masks on at that point by some stewards.

Anyone who thought there wouldn’t be a sudden spike in ‘cases’ was being naive. It was always part of the plan.

We (myself and Papa Lazarou) did it at that point anyway, based on this in the pre-match brief that was emailed...

* You must wear a face covering at all times on the way to, at, and when leaving the stadium – apart from when you are sat in your seat, or when you are eating or drinking.

...we decided that was a sensible point to put a mask on, although some others walking up the same way already had a mask on at that point.

So with gatherings going to be limited to 6 except for weddings, school and work, where does that leave us. Hard to see football crowds allowed back in October.

I’d back 2,500 again though. Even that number made it seem more like a proper game again and felt “low risk”.
