Those “others that seem to be a hangover from the pre-millennium days” are in fact the backbone of the club’s support, the demographics bear this out with Barber’s move to shift the senior discount age higher. Careful who you pop at. The Gen X, Gen Z and Millennials you’re also popping at are just carrying on tradition, such is the football terrace, and they’re doing a fine job.

Without stating the obvious it all about density.

At an away game the density of ‘up for it’ fans is at its maximum level.

Therefore you get… maximum noise (albeit tempered by the quantity of fans (max 3k)).

Fans x Density x Time Drinking = Noise

At a home game, most of those away fans mentioned above are at the Amex but spread around the stadium. Therefore reducing the density and reducing the noise.

So I propose we have 2 away areas at the Amex….

The usual away area and a ‘home away’ area populated by the cohort of home fans who go to away games…

The resulting increase in density = increased noise and increased atmosphere!

It’s not rocket science! Innit.
Yep, there are plenty of pretty dense football fans knocking around!

And others that seem to be a hangover from pre-millennium days. That nonsense about shooting rival fans, and what they call poverty chanting at northern grounds. Even "Ed Sheeran, your music is shit", grated on me at Ipswich. No humour, no cleverness, just plain old boorish abuse. Embarrassing.
And sung to the same old "Sloop John B" tune that seems to be compulsory for any footie chant these days.
What's wrong with trying a bit of Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony , for a change eh? :)

PS: My point was not to deny (all ages) the great away support in terms of noise, commitment, and energy. I love going to away games to be part of that atmosphere. Its just my heart sinks a bit when the chants both home and away but especially away given the noise - are merely "the referee is a c word" or "X is a C word" . I think poor old Leandro Trossard had to put up with that the other week at Falmer. I mean come on. As i said its pretty lame.

Same difference. Dig might have been the wrong word. Let's say he made the observation that support was much louder and more enthusiastic at away games, where we've performed better in recent games. The implication was pretty clear about how we can help create the Amex castle.
Hmmm he talked a lot about the responsibility (of them team/manager) to bring success at home ..after being asked about the chance to make it 4 wins on the trot after 3 successive away wins …their desire to reward the fans

Likewise ..never struck me as a dig at all ..but a positive remark about the away support which was well deserved
Well if it was a dig it was nothing like that dished out by Brian Clough moaning about Derby County supporters: (This was after a 2-1 home win against Liverpool)

"They started chanting only near the end when we were a goal in front. I want to hear them when we are losing. They are a disgraceful lot"
